The Attic?!? Great suggestion from someone (you) who told another user to shoothim self:

Remember this snarky bit you wrote to the guy who liked guns?

"Perhaps you should just take a selfie! That might eliminate the problem!"

YOU belong confined to "The Attic".

Yes, I remember that very well, and this topic section is about photography not about guns. Remember that there are many people that have been affected by gun violence in one way or another. I made my comment with full awareness of what I was saying. It was sarcasm, do you need me to define that for you? If you are that sensitive or unstable, you probably aren't qualified to own weapons of any kind.

Sensitive? Unstable? You are the sensitive snowflake, Gun Violence? Inanimate objects are incapable of violence. The very concept is just as goofy as "car violence","knife violence" or "swimming pool violence"

Anyone who suggests suicide to another human AND is mortally afraid of inanimate pieces of metal, wood or polycarbonate is the unstable one in this conversation. Take you meds and go back to bed.

I'm out...Bye.

You won't be missed, but you have no idea of what you are talking about. You have no idea of what experience I have or do not have of these things. However your irrational response absolutely confirms that you should not be owning weapons. I'm using sarcasm and other types of response, you are the one that is flying off the handle.

Have fun, and let's have these conversations about guns in chit chat, the attic, or not even on a photography forum.

Sorry for my part in the melee. Was just enthused (perhaps over enthused) by the oblique use of the word magazine. I'll try to be good from here on.

We often have those little side distractions, it's when they start taking over the thread that it gets tedious. Star Trek and Ferengi about getting money back, that's fine if it doesn't take over. Automatic vs semi-automatic could apply to cameras equally as well as firearms, it's just a different context. Even magazine and clip can apply to publications, so none of that was too far off topic by itself. It was when the conversation became dominated by gun culture that it was no longer relevant and really should be moved to another section for general discussion. It's not a bad discussion, just the wrong place and at the wrong time.

Most people were either being playful with words or trying to keep the thread on topic, it was James Slick that took it seriously over the edge and started playing a pro gun political bias. Many UHH members are gun owners and enthusiasts, many are veterans or have veterans in their families, many are hunters, but don't necessarily want to have significant gun discussions in a photo section when the thread was about publications and established publications closing down. Chit chat would be a great place for such a discussion should people wish to participate.

Many people responded with humor or wordplay, it was really just James that got bent out of shape when I prodded him a little, and he has absolutely no idea of my own situation, beliefs or otherwise. I certainly had no problem with your contributions or any of the others really, just trying to get the thread back on track.

Take care, Good Sir!

My Pop Photo subscription expired with the last issue, some coincidence. I'd already decided not to renew because magazines, a lot of them, generally seem not to be as interesting as they used to be. Time, Parade, Sports Illustrated are particularly pathetic lately. Blame it on the InterWebs or my increasingly curmudgeonly tendencies.

Two thoughts: 1. DPReview.com camera reviews seemed kind of similar to Pop Photo reviews to me, and 2. When I used to subscribe to several motorcycle magazines I noticed that British motorcycle magazines were way more fun & interesting & (unfortunately) expensive than American mags. The pictures were about the same, but ... you know ... it was their language first. I think I'll pop down to Barnes & Noble later to check their huge magazine racks for British photo magazines. If I get lucky, I'll let you know.

Barnes & Noble did have a few British photo mags, too bad they were all about $13 per issue, ouch. No doubt the subscription price is also a lot. I will buy them occasionally, especially "Digital Photography" which looked interesting and some ads even quoted prices in US $. Note that Canon uses different model numbers in Europe than in N. America. Except for the namebadge, I think the actual cameras are the same, should be easy to translate.

There were still a couple copies of the March '17 Pop Photo available, but I already had one. Selection of other U.S. photo mags was sparse.

Hey, thanks! We have a Barnes & Noble about 15 miles from us! I'll check it out! I like all the info you can get on the Internet, but It's not like holding a book in your hands!! Personally I like to sit down with a magazine to read and view!
