Has anyone actually read the new rules? Do camera lenses have to go into checked luggage or just camera bodies? Can I have a link to the new regulations?

The way every thing is changing I would call the carrier that you will be using a couple of days a head of time and ask.

I believe the new rules are if you are flying from one of the ten identified countries to the US or to other European countries. Check with the airline that you will be flying for the latest on this issue. Currently within the US if you do not go over the two items for carry on and the carry on meets the size requirements for under seat storage you can take your camera/electronics into the cabin of the aircraft. When in doubt check with the airline. With all this said the rules could change at the drop of a hat.

Also keep in mind that the last people boarding the flight are usually standbys and we always get the crappiest seats and have to put up with rude comments from paying passengers and we don't always get on the flight. Sometimes we will spend days in the airport trying to get to our destination and we are not eligible for the hotel, the meal vouchers or the compensatation for taking a later flight. This is what the employees or those flying on their so called perks put up with from the flying public, because we love working with people and we love aviation. Didn't mean to go off on a rant but in light of what happen recently, the flying public needs to get their facts straight before going ballistic.

Heaven forbid anyone would use a computer when you can use a phone...if you're lucky and have the time. Do not check your carrier online and for the love of Mike, don't google any TSA regulations! LOL!!

Just kidding.

I am living out of the US - but I heard that some airlines are now charging for overhead compartment space.
Not sure of the charge is based upon weight, or volume.
So plan accordingly !

I mentioned the airlines that enforce the following rules.
NOTHING LARGER THAN A I-PHONE CAN COME ON BOARD.
Check with the U.S. department of Homeland Security.
I have two pages of information.
#14 We encourage clients to purchase travel insurance, and make sure that all valuables electronics in checked in luggage are insured.

You need nothing, call the airline you are traveling on and they can answer any question you have. Yes Ejfin, it IS that easy.

As a retired employee of a major carrier for 34 yrs I do have that privilege of flying stand-by....but I never do....I pay, and sometimes its first class when its an necessity to fly. When I worked I loved standing by it gave me the opportunity to see the world and I wouldn't of have that opportunity if I was paying out of my pocket! I was poor then. There was always a dress code for employees/family...I remember suit/tie for males and nylon and heels/or flats for females....ugh...and no jeans! That was then .... I travel with my cameras and laptop it helps if you invest in TSA bypass or fly an airline that has "Pre Approved" status. which means don't take off shoes, leave tap top in bag, etc. Less aggravating.

Just flew back from Peru, could take two bags as carryon. But I only had one and it fit under the seat in front of me. What was in it? My iPad, iPhone, travel cameras and lenses along with a few things like glasses, passport, money. I never check cameras and lenses. But if you have to do that, TSA locks are inexpensive and I would suggest using them. Also, as well as a TSA lock, put a couple of twist ties where the lock goes. And,twist, them individually. It takes anyone wanting to help themselves to your "stuff" too long to undo all of them.

It's temporary and applies to only certain airlines/trips. I would never put anything but clothing into checked luggage. Actually, I stopped checking luggage a while ago, but I don't plan to do any more flying.
