Oh, boy, are you getting diverse suggestions. Here are my very subjective opinions. 1. I never got out of my car in Peggy's Cove; the place was a mob scene, and the photo ops were the very paradigm of cliche. 2. We took the ferry out of Portland, paying for a cabin to sleep in during the trip there, and using lounges on the daytime return. We arrived fresh and ready to shoot. 3. No matter how short your visit, Cape Breton is a "must see."

Have a great trip.

I thought I might to PEI, too.

Jerry ,depending how you come into Nova Scotia, P.E.I could be a longer trip than you would want to make. for instance from Lunenburg to P.E.I. is 393 kilometer which on good days would take the better part of 41/2 hrs. straight driving. People sometimes look on a map and think that it's only a matter of a few hours drive from one end to the other. If you were in Yarmouth and you wanted to drive to Sydney to catch a ferry to Newfoundland you be looking at a 700 kilometer trip. My suggestion would be to pick a spot that is kind of situated somewhere's that your interested in and do daytrips.

I AGREE with you about Newfoundland and Cabot Trail. But you say you drive through N.S. Are you using the TransCanada that you are in N.S. for a short time before you hit Cape Briton? Or are you coming into Yarmouth or Digby by boat and actually driving the length of N.S.? And if so are you staying on the 101 or 103 . It would be the same as me using the Queen Elizabeth Highway and saying that Niagara was nothing to see.

I get what you are saying but I would not compare the TCH through NS as though it were equivalent to the QEW.
NS is a very scenic province. My point was that I have the equivalent (or dare I say better) in NL.
I take it you have been there???

What time of year was that? I have very good repellent.

i really don't remember but was off season.... i think fall... campgrounds were worn but empty. several stories... one i remember best... gutted fish (mackerel) laying in the road... first, one every couple hundred yards, then a few more. avoided them at first, then all over the road....for about 30 miles.. yeah 30.... going uphill road loaded, down hill nothing.... then it stopped.... stopped to buy fish at a fish monger to cook for dinner and asked him about it.... strange look from him.....knew nothing.....went on around cape... on the way back stopped at the same place and the guy went nuts telling us what happened.... seem a whole tractor trailer of fish had the rear door jar open and dropped fish the whole way... the company had to clean it up for the whole road. there was fish meat on the bottom of the motor home and our truck a half inch thick... several dogs found us that night at the campgrounds. kept us awake for a while... rained the next day while we were traveling and washed nearly all of it off .... thank god
