I've been watching "Haven" on Netflix, and the scenery is outstanding. The story is set in Maine, but it's filmed in Nova Scotia. It's a 14 hour drive, so it would be two days there and two days back, plus time in NS. Years ago, we went there from ME on the overnight ferry. New they have a new, fast ferry, but it costs almost $200 each way, and the sailing times aren't good. I've done an online search, and there is a lot to see in NS. When we were there the last time, we visited the Titanic Museum, and I learned that someone with my last name - Curtis - worked in the engine room. I guess he didn't make it to NS.

If I go there, you can be sure I'll take and post lots of pictures.

Jerry, the series Haven is shot in Lunenburg, which in itself is a story in itself. Least of all being the birthplace of the famous schooner Bluenose. A good place to get a pano of the whole city is to go to the other side of the river and sneak on top of the hill on the golf coarse. Also go to Blue Rock. Give me a shout if you come and I'll prepare a map of a lot of little hidden places of interest that will keep you busy. Probably longer than you'll be here. If your driving you can cut some time off by taking the boat from St.John new Brunswick to Digby N.S.

Thanks for that. And you live there! Is there a better time to go or avoid going?

I see you've got a lot of replies. The wife and I are taking a bus trip from Maryland up there in sept. Very convenient no driving or looking for motels. We'll be staying two nights in Halifax and two nights on Prince Edward Island . Among other things we will be visiting the Titanic grave yard.

In addition to all the other great places recommended, there is also the Fortress of Louisbourg near Sydney if you are interested in history. I don't think you can do Nova Scotia justice with less than a week, but maybe enough to encourage a return trip. Have a great trip regardless.

I drive through NS every year on my way to NL. Have never felt the need to stop and visit except for one year when my wife and I drove the Cabot Trail. It was a waste of time for me since NL has much nicer scenery especially on the west coast. Good luck if you do the trip. I do the drive to the ferry in 20 hours......straight, no sleep.

all depending what your are looking for, usually the weather starts to get warmer in June but mornings can still be a little crisp. Flora and trees are usually in full bloom. Days are getting longer, warmest month is in August and usually the busiest time for traffic. If you want to escape the traffic you might try to stay away from the tourist traps . If time is of no essence try driving from LUNENBURG to YARMOUTH on the seashore route and take time to turn into side roads that tend to lead to the shore. Be surprised sometimes what you can find. Spare day ? take a day cruise out of WEDGEPORT to take in what is known as the Tusket Islands. LOTS of opportunity to shoot old wharves ,lobster pots etc. and a fresh bowl of fish chowder. Boat is the only way to get there. The Bay of Fundy can be very Interesting also, starting from YARMOUTH again using the scenic route you will encounter Old Acadian villages with lots of wharves and scenery. Drive about 130 klics and you come upon what is called THE Annapolis Valley. Lots of farmland, but you can turn of and follow the shore and again find fishing villages and some of the highest tide of the world. If you are there at low tide you gave walk under the boats.
The longest days of the year here would be around mid June. Usually around 15hrs 30 minutes. I've seem being on site to shoot the sunrise around 5:00 and for the sunset staying till after 9:00 to get the after glow.

I AGREE with you about Newfoundland and Cabot Trail. But you say you drive through N.S. Are you using the TransCanada that you are in N.S. for a short time before you hit Cape Briton? Or are you coming into Yarmouth or Digby by boat and actually driving the length of N.S.? And if so are you staying on the 101 or 103 . It would be the same as me using the Queen Elizabeth Highway and saying that Niagara was nothing to see.

No connection to the Fortress of Solitude, right?

I'm planning on three days.
