It might be a pain to screw in until you develop the correct technique but it has never unscrewed itself on any of my three cameras that have it.
I push it in then screw it on. Drive down the road for an hour and it's unscrewed.
My pickup must be too rough riding for it.

If the vibration from your pickup unscrews the cap, what the hell is happening inside of your camera?

I agree that it is a pain to put on and off,but I've never had one come off my two ten pin cameras.

You know, I'd love to be able to go to an alley and be able to maneuver around on adjacent lane and shoot while someone was bowling! LOL! That would be great!

I'm a few Nikons short to properly use a 10 Nikon connector.
But I have used the 10 pin Nikon connector for GPS add-ons and I have had them unscrew occasionally. Yes, they're a pain to screw in tightly because my fingers just don't fit well into the limited space available. The only time they seem to stay on is when I use a pair of needle nose pliers on them. And even when screwed in tight, I had one connector that didn't really make a good contact and you had to jiggle it occasionally.
I wish my D5 had Bluetooth.

I do NOT like it. Darn it. It was supposed to be the 10 pin connector.
Return it and keep looking.
yes, That has happened to me a few times. the first time it happened I almost lost the cable, so i bought the JerkStopper Camera Support from Tether Tools and now if the pin comes out the cable is still attached to the camera
It would be refreshing to read a good technical question instead of the garbage that is written just for the sake of seeing our name in print.
