I see the original battery that came with my Nikon is about double the price as the (non-Nikon) ones selling on Amazon.
Are these batteries just as good? Anyone have experience with them?

I'm glad you asked this question, Rloren! I did buy non-Nikon batteries and had to throw out a couple of them. The others don't seem to hold a charge. I think I'll buy Nikon from now on because of the responses to your question here.

I know it's a different brand but the non-Canon batteries I bought (with charger) won't charge in the original Canon charging device. The non-Canon charger stopped working after a year so I have two batteries that are effectively useless unless I buy another (non-Canon) charger. Not sure it's the same with Nikon but worth a thought.

When I bought my 80D I also bought a no-name battery at the camera shop. The did not have any Canon batteries at the time. Then I went and bought 2 batteries on Amazon. Well the one I got from my camera store is already dead and the two from Amazon work, however, I only get around 500 clicks prior to recharging. Just got done with my Canon battery and got over 1100 clicks with it. Going to pick up a couple more of the Canon version one may come with another 80D body.

I have and still do use Wasabi or Watson batteries with no issues. They seem to not have the lifespan of OEM batteries. That being considered, I can buy
a whole lot of the Wasabi or Watson's for the price of one OEM battery.

I have been using non Sony batteries for two years without a single problem. I have never purchased an off brand battery from Amazon that failed. They usually come with a charger.

Have you noticed a Chevrolet is half the price of a Mercedes. Could it be something to do with quality? Duh!!!!!

From my experience over nine years with at least a dozen DSLRs, the cheap batteries are just as good as the expensive ones. I've never had one fail or die in the camera. Basically, I can't tell the difference based on performance. I can get two batteries and a charger for less than the cost of one Nikon battery.

Interesting thread. My 80D is a battery hog and I need to pickup a couple of spares for the spring trip to Colorado. I guess I may as well spend the big $$$ and get Canon.

Hmmm. I have an 80D and it is definitely not a battery hog. I have a Canon Battery and a Watson battery. The Watson seems to last just as long as the Canon between charges.

No, they are usually lower capacity at best, but at the worst, they could damage your camera. Just thing "Samsung S7"

That being said, when I bought my D800 from B and H in 2013 (?), they threw in a Pearstone battery. It works, but it only has about 75% of the capacity of the Nikon OEM.

Samsung S7 not really the same (to mimic the commercial). The Samsung battery issue was with OEM battery which would be the same as your Nikon or Canon with OEM batteries catching on fire.

It's possible to by a 2017 Mercedes for $38,000 and a 2017 Chevrolet for $53,000.

And I personally would not consider it a very slick move to invest 53 large in a Chevy would you?
