I see the original battery that came with my Nikon is about double the price as the (non-Nikon) ones selling on Amazon.
Are these batteries just as good? Anyone have experience with them?

I've bought a few brands of non-Nikon batteries. After a while, the camera battery checker said that some of them didn't charge to 100% while the Nikon batteries did. I used the original Nikon charger for all of them. I only buy Nikon now and only from authorized dealers.

I use Nikon batteries and I buy them from B&H. My feeling is, I spend all that money on the camera, why go cheap on the battery.

Some swear by third party batteries, most swear at them.

Interesting thread. My 80D is a battery hog and I need to pickup a couple of spares for the spring trip to Colorado. I guess I may as well spend the big $$$ and get Canon.

There's good reason it's twice the price.

Some third party batteries from reputable vendors seem to perform admirably without issues or problems. For me however, it's just not worth the risk.

No, they are usually lower capacity at best, but at the worst, they could damage your camera. Just thing "Samsung S7"

That being said, when I bought my D800 from B and H in 2013 (?), they threw in a Pearstone battery. It works, but it only has about 75% of the capacity of the Nikon OEM.

Couldn't agree more - saving $20 or even $30 isn't worth the risk.

I've had three Lenmar batteries for about three or four years now, plus one OEM.

I have 9 Nikon batteries. I have had some almost 5 years. They just work like an energized bunny. I've never had a moment of trouble – and I wouldn't own anything but OEM.

I go OEM on proprietary batteries, On "AA" form factor I go Eneloop Pro (the actual Japanese made ones!) 😀👍

I'm sure there are good aftermarket batteries, But I'm not enough of a gambler to risk expensive gear to find out.
