You can install CS6 on two computers. If you want it on a third computer you must first deactivate on one of the other two. Open Photoshop on the computer that will be deactivated. Click Help>Deactivate. You should now be able to activate on the new computer.

Try this: 1-800-585-0774
It's old, but it worked in the past.

Jerryc41,
Long time user of Photoshop CS5. Upgrading to CS6 was the only upgrade I didn't do, ever since I bought the very first Photoshop.

Sounds like you've done some research on alternative to PSCS6. What have you found? What would be an equal alternative to CS6 or CS5?

mine (CC version) went into a strange state a couple of days ago where it insisted i had a trial version. i found the adobe forum & posted a what's up kind of question. the next morning all worked as paid for. i don't know if it was a server connect glitch on their end or whether their count down software has a bug & my post helped to get me a quick resolution. it's all a big mystery. but as of yesterday, the problem seems to have disappeared.

This exact thing happened to me this week. I was pulling my hair out because, of course, I was on a deadline. They had me reactivate and then uninstall and reinstall. It was a pain, but it is working again.

This has happened to me a couple of times, and with different programs.
Shutting down the computer, waiting a minute or two, then rebooting, solved the problem.
The second time this happened, I simply rebooted, but that didn't help. Shutting down and waiting those couple of minutes made a difference.

Still using CS6 but it is getting more difficult since there is no support for new camera raw files. But, I'm waiting for some new technique or development in CC that I can't do as a work around in CS6 that will motivate me. Till then I'm sailing along subscription-free.

should have said refuse to use the cloud. don't want to just keep shelling out money to adobe. adobe has just become a money pit. And I did buy this from an authorized dealer back in the day. was also installed on windows 10 but i installed an new hard drive with 7 ultimate. I don't understand why adobe can't just renew the serial number to solve this problem

The mistake you made is not deactivating it from the other computers first and then installing on the new machines. If there is any way you can do that, you might avoid having to chat with the Adobe folks.

FWIW
I too have a kind of philosophical resistance to "monthly subscriptions" but I gave in and signed up for the Creative Cloud for Photographers some time ago.
I get very P&@@ed off by my cable bill, my cell phone bill, my auto insurance bill and a host of other but......I consider the measly $10/month for Lightroom and Photoshop to be money well spent. A genuine bargain.

And....I'm sure you know this but...."Creative Cloud" is misleading. The software is actually fully installed on your PC and your images are all stored on your PC. Once installed you could disconnect your system from the internet if you want. The only time it needs to be connected is once a month so Adobe can reauthorize use based on whether or not you made your payment.

As Gene51 pointed out you could easily spend more than $10/month on good beer (I do).
FWIW br I too have a kind of philosophical resista... (show quote)

"....a kind of philosophical resistance to "monthly subscriptions"...."

They didn't break it down in to groups, but recent business news reported that there are now 9 million customers subscribing to Adobe's various plans. I've tried, but can't find how many of the 9 million are on the $10 per month Photographers Plan.

I teach Photoshop and am not a subscriber to PS CC personally. There is just not enough compelling reasons yet for PS CC vs. CS6, IMO.

Yeah....it just made sense. Considering that PS alone was about $600 (I think), LR was something like $149 and upgrades (to LR) were $59 the $10/month seems like a pretty good price.

If you go to the Adobe site you can find a chat section where you can get help 24 hours a day every day from an Adobe tech. They can help you figure out what you have to do. The older CS6 is actually not being supported any more but you can still activate it you just have to know how. Go to the chat on the Adobe site and they will help you.

Yes! It helps if you can do basic math rather than relying upon ideology.

This is not a recommendation to everybody but I haven't found a feature in PS CC that I can't duplicate with a workaround in CS6. Not to say I know every new feature in CC though, but I try to keep abreast.

Just today I was having problems importing my pictures into Lightroom 6.9 (stand alone version). I could not get things to work and every time the program would hang without importing anything. This has happened every time I have tried to import the last two weeks. I don't know if there is a bug that needs fixing or if they are hoping people will be frustrated enough to switch over to the monthly subscription.

That's just silly.

Adobe will eventually drop all support for CS6, then you will have to make a hard choice - CC or some other software. You are dismissing the value of not having this problem against what is a very fair price to keep your software current. Different strokes . . .
