I did not recommend that the same options as Facebook be used, just the overall concept.
I do understand you do not like the idea. ;)

Imagine is all you can do, because there are no hard facts about non-joiners. 73,000 members is a hard, marketable fact.

There ar many who simply left because of the same a$$holes, and there are many new members who have admitted that they didn't want to join initiallly for the same reasons. So you CAN imagine that there are those who never join. What is allowed in the main forum is never ever allowed in any other forum that I'm aware of and definitely not on any photography forums.

Here is a fact for you: members HAVE been banned in the past and you still have 73000. Or are you saying that if the few were banned the majority would leave as well? That makes absolutely no sense. And banning people is not the end of the world. It happens on other forums.

I am saying that it is to Admin's advantage to show potential advertisers that 73,000 photographers are members of this website, and that several thousand visit everyday. Only a handful of disruptive members have been banned since I joined in 2011, and there was never any mass exodus. Draw your OWN conclusions; do not speculate on MY conclusions.

Last I checked, it was you who had an issue with my post. So maybe you can take your own advise for a change.

It's a matter of where they spend their time. Social and Analytical are on opposite ends of the same habit pole. If you are extremely creative, you are:

Highly assertive (not passive pushovers)

Highly analytical (probably have low social needs, and possibly few social or political skills as a consequence of how they have spent their time)

Highly restless --- stay busy, on task, and get easily agitated or startled (not tranquil)

Highly detailed, by the book, structured, may be rigid (not likely to back down from logic to accommodate rapid situational flux).

It takes all kinds to make a world. This forum is full of all kinds. It's obviously called UGLY Hedgehog for a reason. Opposite traits WILL clash. Thesis plus antithesis creates synthesis.

Celebrate the debate and banter. Don't get offended! It's just the pageant of life passing by...

I would not want to depend on any open forum if I was new to photography. It takes a while, even with a bit of experience, to determine who are the real experts and who just likes to hear themselves talk. There are often conflicting opinions with no way for a newbie to know which is correct. A forum is a place for discussion first and foremost. It can be a lot of fun and somewhat educational, but not to be confused with a learning center.

I started out with M4/3 and was recommended I visit their forum. I have to tell you, that there really isn't another site that I have seen, that tolerates the anti socials like UHH does. Let's leave the grumpies out for a second, there are only a handful of a$$holes that cause issues. Most other sites are also full of very knowledgeable members. So I personally trust to learn.

It would be much easier to get rid of the handful of a$$holes. They would find their way to that sub forum in a minute.
