We see lots of questions, such as why is everything behind my subject blurry? what is ISO , SOOC etc etc.
Then we get the people replying with nasty comments, such as read a book go to school etc. ( there are of course lots of people that try to help as well)
Then there are a lot of people that wont ask their newbie question because they are afraid of the nasty responses.
Maybe its time for a newbie question area. where they can safely ask their questions and hopefully NOT get the snide remarks that are so common here.
Then if your one of the ones that hates the newbie questions, you dont have to visit that area.
what do u think?

I hope admin reads the threads. Since manners can't be taught this late in the game, your suggestion would be a terrific alternative.

What was Admin's reply when you suggested this?
I think you are correct.
I appreciate all of the positive various info and help that I have had over the past years.
I am a retired professional with a fair amount of info to share and I am glad to do it.
Thanks for posting your question.

There is a section, I believe it is called " Frequently asked questions," or " Past subjects, of Interest." BB
Sad bdk that you even have to suggest this. I have seen several nasty or snarky comments. Too bad because these new photographers probably won't come back to this site. I suggest that if you can't say anything nice or helpful DON"T COMMENT AT ALL!!

......you can't fix nasty.....there is always a few.... thank goodness it's only a few
In as much as thungs like dof can be put in the search box and get a list of messages, maybe we could create a FAQ (frequently asked question) forum that opens with a list of links to FAQ subjects. Each would have basic to advanced information. Of course, someone would have to write it all up. One link could be to a list of the best books.
Along with the tidbits of valuable information, there will be a flood of misinformation, opinionated lectures not based on factual foundation, etc. All this followed by sniping within the thread.

Great idea. I for one am a newbie and would definitely be more comfortable asking questions to someone who truly doesn't mind helping.

Isn't that what Facebook is for?
I think having a NEWBIE AREA is a great idea! I'm 65 years old, a retired teacher, and have bought my first dslr camera and want to learn it thoroughly. I want to ask questions, I am reading books, and watching videos, but I'm hesitant to post questions because of the remarks by others that I've seen here. Some responses posted by others sound like a verbal cat fight.... that I would not want any part of! I have just joined your forum and was surprised by the intensity of the attacks by some members towards other members. Thank you for suggesting this, blb511

The problem for newbies is they don't know what they don't know. So searching FAQ or the forum sometimes is futile if you don't know what you are looking for. For example Back Button Focus, if you are new and you never heard of it before how would you search for it. People often forget a forum like this is to engage in discussion and ask questions. The other problem is it can take for ever to weed through previous posts to find the real information. Especially hot topics that reach several pages and sometimes get derailed down some rabbit hole by someone who jumps in without reading the original post. Also if you know what you are looking for you can just use the internet and find zillions of videos and blogs on any subject. I think a beginners section would be a great addition
