for a trip to Hawaii i'd take either my pentax 645d, my sony a-850, or sony a-77. hang the weight, and i'm 78. on my once in a lifetime dream trip, I want my best.

You are dedicated. The Pentax 645 is an army tank. I hate to be the first one to tell you this, but it won't fit in your pocket. >Alan

Taking a trip to Hawaii this summer and looking to buy an inexpensive mirrorless camera to take with me. I already own a dslr Nikon FX camera, but after a while it becomes a burden to carry around. Mostly will be taking the usually sights in the islands. Something easy to handle on the go would be nice. If you have an honest recommendation, please feel free to respond. (I'm a senior citizen on a limited income.)

An alternative suggestion. - Buy a 50mms G lens (about $200.) You'll have a world class camera that you already know how to operate. Also you'll have the FUN of figuring out how to capture the emotions you're feeling with a single lens.

My last trip I took the SONY A77 and 4 lenses.
not this next trip. I purchased a SONY RX10 III
for our trip. Great family photos for memories
1" sensor back-lit CMOS sensor.
Great 24-600mm lens
weather sealed
The size of a DSLR but don't have to change lenses
I just don't like the smaller size of the mirrorless camera's
an open box camera is $1300.00 so might be over your budget
Not a pro camera, but great photographs.

Surprising they make a camera the size of a DSLR with such a tiny sensor. If I were going to carry that big a camera, I'd want more sensor real estate.

I guess you can get more lens reach that way, though, and I'm sure it's a great camera.

There's always the new Leica M10. Only $6500, but wow that thing is gorgeous.

The Sony A6000/6300 are great cameras with an aps-c sensor. The only problem is that the lenses are larger than those of the M4/3 cameras. I would recommend the Panasonic or the Olympus - if you can tolerate the menu system.

Since you have an FX Nikon you might consider either the Nikon D3400 or D5500, both are as lightweight as some of the mirrorless cameras and the new Nikon 18-55 P lens is a very sharp lightweight lens. The Nikon D3400 with the 18-55 AF-P lens is $499. I am in the same situation with the Nikon D750 and not sure I want to take it on an upcoming cruise so considering a smaller DX camera or as another post suggested just taking a small prime, I have the Nikon 28mm AIS and might just take that and my 50mm.

I love my Olympus Pen E-PL 7. I got a very good deal on it after it was phased out last fall to make way for the E-P L 8. You cannot get a camera with interchangeable lenses that is smaller and lighter than this. The Olympus kit zooms are inexpensive and very good. You can also use your Nikon lenses with an adapter. I am very happy with the image quality and doubt that most people would be able to tell the difference between micro 4/3 and APS (DX) or even full-frame. I am primarily a film shooter and find that this camera has a film vibe, since it is inspired by the old Olympus Pen film camera. It is a very elegant design.

Although there are the a6300 and a6500 . A6000 is still a great choice especially for the price. I use the Zeiss 24/1.8 and the Sony pro G 28-105 oss zoom lens. I would also suggest that you get the Busch or Freidman's book to learn all of the camera's many capabilities.

I'm planning a trip to the UK n April. Plan is to take just the Leica M-D (the one with no screen) and a 35mm lens, with MAYBE a 50mm lens and an extra battery in the bag.

When I travel I travel with two bodies and three lenses. A6300 and 7rii. The lenses are my Batis lenses. 18, 25 and 85 mm. Can also use the a6300 with theze lenses for further distance. Love this combo for travel. These are my three favorite lenses.

sounds like a good selection to me. i'd leave the 50 at home and take the 90mm f2.8 elmarit along with my 35mm lens. but that's just a matter of taste. i seem to keep living with the 35mm on my m6 and wonder why i have the 50 and 90. must be getting fussy in my dottage.
good luck with your trip!!!
