First, Canon does not make a camera called 6Ti. There's the 6D, T6, T6i and T6s but no 6Ti.
For the T6i I'd recomended a Sigma 150-600 Contemporary and the Sigma 1.4 teleconverter for that extra reach when needed. This combination may be had for well within your stated budget. I have the Sigma 150-600 C in Nikon mount and the S in Canon mount and the 1.4 teleconverter for both. For the money it is an excellent lens.

My wife went from a Sony 50X to a Canon 6Ti with the 55 and 300mm kit lenses and would like something to recover some of the reach she has with the Sony. Can anyone suggest a decent lens I could get her for around $1000 to $1500?

Sigma or Tamron 150-600mm zoom. Both just over $1000

Check out KEH for a used lens or Canon for a referbished. You will not tell them from new.

Check out the Tamron 150-600mm G2. I'm guessing about $1500. Very good reviews on this lens. Even by uhh members who have bought it. Comes with a 6 year warranty too.

Got one...excellent. Even works well with a Kenko 1.4 teleconverter.

I think Sigma have a 150-600mm now but I have the 150-500mm and it's brilliant...I don't have troubles at 500mm like some "reviewers" (?) seem to whinge about...

Do you use a tripod with this lens.

I am a big fan of the Sigma 150-600 also. Here are a few shots I was able to get with it...

Go with the Sigma 150-600. You can not beat it.

I just do not like f6.3 lenses on crop frame bodies - and I do not care who makes it - or what body it is. !

As mentioned, the Canon 100-400mm are really GREAT lenses - either version ! The older version will save significant $$$. Crop your way to 600mm and use pixel enlargement if making large print.

If size and weight matters, the 400 5.6 prime is also a GREAT choice - but no IS and zoom with your feet.

nature shooter beautiful images with the sigma!!! tamron lens weighs 4.41 pounds vs 4.21 for the sigma. so sigma is lighter. consider the newer tamron 150-600mm the reviews of it have been great. Thinking of purchasing one myself when the price goes down 100$ or so.

I agree and would like to add that as good as all the examples that have been presented I haven't seen any BIF. If you do want to do BIF you should also see how a third party lens will fast focus and also hold focus on a fast moving subject. It's not uncommon with in the group that I shoot with to see photographers switch a lens to let someone shoot with a new or different lens. They even take one of their own memory cards and place it in someone else s camera so that they can download the images at home and really see what can be achieved with a different set up. Take your time before you spend your hard earned money and know what you are getting.
