Whatever you are doing for a living QUIT and be a Professional fire Works Photographer, they are priceless, beautiful shots, thanks for sharing.

What a gracious thing to say, I appreciate it very much. You know, these pictures are a testament to the advice to try new things with your camera. I had never taken firework time exposures like this, but did a little research on settings and was careful to set everything up correctly. Then, you gotta get a little lucky. Here are few more from the same evening....

Palmtree?
Palmtree?...

From the Beach. Those are campfires.

Greetings all! As my first post, I wanted to put up these pictures from a 2011 Fireworks show on the Oregon Coast. I set up the camera on a tripod with an intervalometer set to take 4 second time lapse every 12 seconds. Then I just sat back and hoped I got lucky. The silhouettes are my parents and some of their friends in lawn chairs. I really like that they showed up in the exposures. Of course, any suggestions for improvement are welcome.

My first thought when I read the title was, 'four seconds! a little long!' BUT when I saw your photos I thought "Great Shots!" I think you did some really good shooting and I hope to see more of your work soon. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, I know! My stupid brother is the guy right in the middle with the hoody up over his head and he couldn't still and is blurry in almost every other shot. Next year I'm making him sit on the end out of the picture.

DUDE !! You done did your homework on those shots !! I LOVE the set it and forget it methodology !! I have ALL the required stuff, including the intervalometer, a 7D, a 12-24 f/4 Tokina, and a tripod. With the fourth coming up, I'll be using the Timarron method (except I'll use ISO 160 and f/13 with the 7D) - can't wait to see what I get :)

Merlin - I am back on the coast again this year and ready for the fireworks too. I gave the Fire Department (who puts on the show), several framed photos to hang in the station. In return, they invited me behind the lines to take photo's from ground zero. I have the entire fireman's outfit too including the helmet! So, I may have a totally new perspective this year..... straight up. Anyway, I am VERY anxious to see your results. Make sure you post them. I wouldn't mind a PM so I know where to go to find them too. Good luck bro.

Timarron....terrific images! I also love the silhouettes of your family!

Thanks so much. Is it just me, or is there something a little magical about a silhouette in the right place?

I agree... I was just thinking about fireworks. Since I don't have a tripod , I think I'll have to go with a faster shutter speed But I can take multiple pics at a pretty fast clip, so maybe I'll be able to HDR them in PP. We'll see! Yours are excellent! Jen :-) :-)

Fabulous pictures, Timarron! Especially #1. Wow. I really love the silhouettes of the people and how clear the sky and fireworks are. Great job! :P
