Greetings all! As my first post, I wanted to put up these pictures from a 2011 Fireworks show on the Oregon Coast. I set up the camera on a tripod with an intervalometer set to take 4 second time lapse every 12 seconds. Then I just sat back and hoped I got lucky. The silhouettes are my parents and some of their friends in lawn chairs. I really like that they showed up in the exposures. Of course, any suggestions for improvement are welcome.

These are awesome!! I haven't been able to get a great shot of fireworks yet... still learning. But these are great! the shot with the people make the pictures so much more exciting and interesting to look at.

I love fireworks and photos of them in general. TRhe effect of the silhouetted crowd is an awesome touch that I have never seen. Great Job.

luck you to have a family that can sit still for 4 seconds....mine never could/would. Love the exposures....they're all great!

Thanks for the nice reply. I used a Canon EOS 60D with the 18-135mm kit lens. The settings were as follows:

ISO 100 (keeps the noise low)
18mm
f11
Long Exposure Noise Reduction set to "ON"
4 second exposure (tripod + intervalometer)

Seriously, it was a fortunate first try at this. I set the camera up, set the intervalometer to the 4 second exposure every 12 seconds and just walked away. I have close to 40 "keepers" from the 25 minute show. Give it a try!

Thanks so much. Is it just me, or is there something a little magical about a silhouette in the right place?
