I am looking to upgrade/replace my old Nikon D300. Great camera but technology has moved on. I am considering the Nikon D7200, D5500, or D500. I don't think I'm ready to go full frame yet because of the expense and the fact that I have a few DX lenses. Any thoughts or advice? I do mainly landscape and people photography.

I recently got a d500 and a great camera, very sharp photos, 10 frames a second to capture fast action, excellent focusing system. I use it mostly for wildlife. If you don't shoot any fast action or wildlife and never intend to I don't know if the higher price would be worthwhile for you. The d7200 is nice too.

The D500 is the closest successor to the d300. I'd get one if I could afford it. I have the d300 and the D7100.

I have and still use the D300 when I do not plan to make large prints.
I also have the D7100 - first one at new price, second one as refurb super bargain - just the same. Fantastic for controlled calm shooting.
No point in D7200 price unless you plan to machine-gun raw files.
D500 winner ONLY for action shooting. Too expensive, too big; it is NOT like handling the D300!
Wonderful new display at my local Best Buy so I was able to handle (and fire) all the Nikon DSLRs on the market now. Worth the time if you can get there.

I have the D300 and waited for several years for the D400. It never came so I sprung for the D7100. It's a fine camera-- but I wish I had waited for the D500. The layout, build, and "feel" suits me much more than the D7xxx series. JMHO. It's. an individual thing.

I changed from the D7100 to the D500
