Welcome, to the HOG, you might want to check out Fine Art America, I think the first 30 photos are free, rather reasonable per year after that, Bob.

Thanks very much yes I'll check out Fine Art America, I know some quite well known artists use that one

Welcome to our forum!

Yes, art galleries can be snobby. In this area, some restaurants, banks, and other businesses display local art, both painting and photography. It's not a real art gallery, but it's something.

Yeah I've had a couple of PMs too hinting there's some kind of distrust thing going on between art galleries and photographers. Maybe it's cos galleries can make more money selling prints of paintings (limited editions and stuff) so they'd rather not bother with photos, but I was just kinda hoping there were some "tog-friendly" galleries out there somewhere.

Welcome Holly,
All I can say, you photo is fantastic, the snobs at these galleries are just that snobs. Don't let that dissuade you. Also, check out some photo schools to get some leads to show your work.
Lots of luck, don't get deterred.

Hi Holly, welcome to the Hog, Nice photo by the way. I followed your last posts on links and resources,http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-421118-1.html and can understand your hesitance at posting in galleries but I can tell you I have been a member of UHH for a while now and a photographer for a whole lot longer and have posted my images to many sites and contests in the hope of getting my name out there so to speak. I won an online contest recently and I got approached by a gallery owner in Penzance, UK who liked my work and offered me wall space for 3 of my images and a place in his upcoming photo contest as a judge, see here: http://www.thealvertongallery.co.uk/shop/competitions/alverton-penzance-photographic-competition/ Obviously I checked this gallery out and they seem really keen to get little known photographers into their gallery as a means to expand their business model. The owner, a Roger Driscoll who I have personally spoken with seems a really nice guy, very genuine. I'm certainly taking up their offer and assisting them in running their recent photo contest and hopefully my portfolio will figure in their gallery and get my name known in that part of the U.K. Give it a go and let me know how you get on

Welcome to UHH Holly, glad you joined us. I see that you have already received some very good suggestions. I see where Jerry mentioned using a restaurant. There are a couple around New Orleans that let you do just that. Maybe not a gallery but could get your foot in the door.
Have fun, learn and enjoy the forum.

For sure, do that and let us know how you get on if only to suppress some fears that some photographers appear to have about galleries. Why not enter the contest if you have some seascape shots, the judging will be completely blind so I won't even know it's your pic, lol.
