Could you share any experience with 42nd St photo in NY? They seem to be the only one who has the Panasonic fz1000 in stock.

Just do a Search on this site for 42nd St Photo or 42nd St Camera. You'll get a lot of assessments of their business practices.

Have you tried ordering it directly from Panasonic's website? They may even have a refurbished model at a lower price.

Do a search here. You will not be inclined to do business with them, I suspect, after reading the stories. There seem to be a lot of stories about Bait-and-switch techniques - so they say they have something in stock, and yet they may or may not have it when you order it. And then they may try to sell you something different or even ship you something different.

Outside of B&H you really-really need to ask questions; be aware & cross your fingers ------ However --- I did all that and -----
I recently purchased a Canon 5DS (with full US warranty) for 3k @ Abes Of Maine ----- Just checked them out as regards your Panasonic fz1000 --- Don't know how good of a price this is ---- They list it @ $718.00 --- Good luck & remember about those crossed fingers

Ken, you can't be serious. Do you really believe that only B&H is legit? Wow!

In. My experience, B&H is the only place that I would ,without hesitation, recommend . Since dealing with them for a number of years with excellant results, why go elsewhere? Not to say that there aren't other places that are also fabulous, But so many have evidently had similar dealings with B&H. Again I say, Why go elsewhere? Listen to fellow hogs, and make "SAFE-BETS". Oh no -- Your of course Oh so right -- There are indeed quite a few Authorized others out there -- Just picked B&H as the gold plated prime example of a totally legit place -- However if your looking for a "deal" say $500 off on a new or fairly new camera then your bound to take your chances with the non-authorized places -- Dealt with Abes Of Maine (located in my home state of N.J.) twice once back in 2009 for $500 off on a 5DII & recently for the same amount off on the 5DS -- On both occasions I was lucky -- On both occasions I also kept my Visa customer service 800 number handy & of course my fingers crossed -----

If you are talking online retailers, there is adorama, cameta and of course Amazon. Not to mention ALL the local shops in town. I understand that many do go out of business, but there are still many one can visit locally. Prices are the same, not sure what you get at B&H that you can't get at adorama or cameta if you have questions. I'm sure you will get similar service from Hunt's, Samy's, Murphy's, Roberts, Mike's, Dodd Camera, Bedford, National Camera Exchange, - just saying.

PS: I have nothing against B&H, but to say that they are the only sure bet is ridiculous.

I don't get why you would have to keep your fingers crossed? I purchased from Cameta only out of the ABC group and I had excellent service from them. Every time with lightning fast shipping. Besides Olympus direct, I normally purchase from Amazon (I found an amazing price on the Panasonic 7-14 lens I have that was a promotion with full warranty) and locally from Pro Photo here in downtown Portland. Never had a bad transaction. For new items, everyone has to charge the same msrp aka "street price". If you want a bigger discount, you will most likely get a non USA item if you want new in box. Not sure what the issue is. FYI, I have seen members complaining about B&H numerous times. Last one that I have seen was from MTshooter. That didn't seem like a "mistake". Just saying. But yes, overall B&H is a good bet.

Kept my fingers crossed simply because I did get that "deal" -- Your wrong --- I paid 3k for a camera that's currently listed for 3,500 (check out B&H) -- Only Authorized Dealers are forced to sell by Canon at the same price nation wide --- Remember -- We still do have a Free Market -- Granted one that you as a consumer take chances with as I did --- My 5DS is fully registered on-line (did it myself 3 weeks ago) with Canon Of America with it's full 1yr long warranty -- It's not a gray market item

Well I stand corrected, I guess Canon doesn't enforce their suggested prices. Of course any establishment can sell for less, as long as the maker is not aware of it.
