As Halloween approaches, the veil between worlds grows thin, and the whisperings in the forest around the Ministry of Mayhem grow louder. I took a break from mopping the Ministry floors and went into the woods, hoping the solitude might freshen my perspective on things. Finding a dry spot under a large oak, I planted myself to do a little pondering, weak and weary.

While visions of sugarplums danced through my head, a familiar if unwelcome voice from the leaves interrupted my pondering (I wasn't asleep, I was just pondering deeply!!!) and began to nag me. Rasputin, the Mad Monk. Back again. Nuts! I thought the Dark Ladies had banished that pest. Obviously their banishment spell needed a little work, because here he was, bigger than life (okay, maybe a little smaller--he was, after all, ensconced in a leaf), and again insisting the Martian should invade Russia.

Hah, as if! His invasion of Rhode Island a couple of years ago was a fiasco (yes, yes, I know he won, but he had to give it back, didn't he?) Not likely he'd take on Russia.

Or would he?

Thanks, MT. Walking in the woods around the Ministry is almost as much fun as strolling in Martian's garden. One never knows what manner of strange people and creatures one will see. But a word of advice--should you go walking in those woods, take a leaf blower along. Just in case...

LOL

Thanks for your kind comments on this one, it's very much appreciated, and glad you had a little pre-Halloween fun with it!

Thanks, DragonsLady. The Russians have always been a strange and moody people. I count myself lucky that Rasputin only showed up with four eyes this time, lol.

Thanks for the smile and your visit, it's much appreciated, and all the blessings of Samhain to you!

Russia has no idea what is hanging in balance when dealing with Rasputin!
He could enter the Ministry of War at the Rusky capitol and do some despicable act, blaming the Martian! The Dark Ladies could fly over and warn the Dark Ladies of Russia to be on alert! The resources of the Ministry need to be put to work on ensconcing Rasputin in the tomb of the Kookians, never to escape again!! In the meantime, I would stay out of the dark woods until after Halloween!! Trick or Treat!!

Thanks, Sirius_one. A dangerous character for sure, and one doesn't want to take him lightly, even as a leaf. But a good leaf-blower and he'll be on his way to Cleveland!

Thanks for the kind comments and your visit, they're always much appreciated! Have a Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween to you too, I hope you will have the day off from moppong the Ministry of Mayhem's floors.

And what to my wondering eyes should appear?? Amazing how can weave Clement's tale into the Dark Side. Love it, Love it, Love it!!!
(Maybe if the Romanov's had some reindeer, they could have escaped.)

Thanks, TG, and good advice, lol! I don't go near those woods during Halloween week, even with my trusty leaf blower, unless accompanied by one or more Dark Ladies. And even then, it's iffy.

I don't think the Martian is particularly worried about Rasputin or the Russians. The Ministry maintains a large staff in Moscow, as Russia apparently offers an almost ideal environment for mayhem, and most young Ministry trainees start out learning the ropes over there. Rasputin spent many a day in the Martian's office, encouraging him to invade Russia, until the Martian got fed up wasting time with him and had him banished by the Dark Ladies. He will not be pleased to find out the Mad Monk is still skulking about in the woods outside.

Thanks for your kind comments and visit, they're much appreciated, and have a very Happy Halloween!

Thanks, Sirius_one. There will be no mopping for me, as the Ministry maintains only a skeleton staff on Halloween, with everyone out and about making mayhem (busiest night of the year!) Finding enough skeletons to keep the place running is not my department, tho the job usually gets delegated to the Dark Ladies. ; )
