Our dental insurance helps cover root canals and crowns, it won't pay for a new lens. :-)

I never heard of a tooth taking a photo, but I've heard of them with fillings to bring in radio stations; like it did on Gilligan's Island.

My father used to say when he kinda stepped on his you know what; "my tongue got on the way of my eye tooth and I couldn't see what nI was saying"

Besides that, my understanding of teeth is to chew food.

Aren't implants not only expensive, but also painful? More painful than an extraction or root canal?

With a good local anesthetic, and possibly a mild sedative, patients should not be fearful of these procedures. Always try to find a dentist who has experience doing these treatments.

I've had half-a-dozen root canals, and done properly, as mine were, they are painless - more pain from a cleaning. Nothing to be afraid of except the price 😂

I too am a retired dentist of near the same age. Myh problem is I know too much and when I challenged my now not current dentist on his lab not matching my crown on the second appointment and the tooth anatomy was inadequate, he returned my money after our discussion of my not accepting the crown. Also, he said he was firing the lab, but would return my crown for "correction" to the shade. Good thing he refunded. I agree that a good root canal on a firm tooth should last a long time. However, long time may be 6 years or 26 years if you live so long. Our bodies do not come with warrantees.
Good luck with your decision. Or perhaps you can find a photographer dentist who would take a lens in exchange :))

Better than finding a proctologist who would give a lens in exchange!!!

If you are very lucky and find a good dentist in Mexico, the prices are much better than in the U.S. The problem in both the U.S. and Mexico is chosing the right dentist.

I dreaded going for the first one, but - Novacaine! I think the worst part was keeping my mouth open for so long, but now they have devices to do that - I hope.

Traveling to Mexico would eat up any savings I'd get from the dentist. I'd be afraid of getting sick from the water when he said, "Rinse."

Maybe the same one I went to some years ago and who I will see this year.

Ask your dentist to use a bite block. Once between your back teeth you bite into this, it is much easier than opening for a longer procedure.

I would respectfully disagree. Perhaps it's because I grew up in medicine/hospitals - my father was a microbiologist (not an MD), my mother was a lab tech, and my wife is a retired RN, so I've seen it from the inside. Now, at my age, I'm incredibly lucky to have a platoon of long-term excellent caregivers, including a fine dentist, an oral surgeon, a general practitioner, an ENT physician, a cardiologist, an orthopedist, a GI specialist and an ophthalmologist. Not once have I been subjected to unnecessary tests or procedures, and I don't for a moment believe that any of them were profit-driven. Maybe I'm just lucky, and perhaps there are physicians that fit your description, but I haven't encountered one, and I'd be in real trouble without this excellent cadre of caregivers.

Sounds like you have a lot of health problems. I'm not young but I have only had to visit a couple of those in your list.

They don't have Novacaine in Costa Rica?
