If I can find this is two seconds (model may not be listed) think what you can find trying harder...

I'm assuming that you are talking to yourself, Ron. Not surprising, but if you wish to converse instead of creating a one way dialogue, you might want to consider using quote reply without deleting everything! Also, your solution may work in the restricted Nikon realm, but not always in the rest of the multi-verse!

there is no online shutter count that works for Canon. Everybody who tells you they use one is full of BS up to their brown eyes. Perhaps up to their hairline.

The only way I have ever gotten an accurate shutter count on a Canon is from the Canon Service Center in Irvine Ca. They charge either $30 or $40 to give accurate shutter count. out and back a week.

The MEAN woman rules on this. Otherwise..... guess what!!! No new camera. That's OK you didn't know that much about it anyway? (you didn't know you can't get a shutter count from anyone other than Canon.)

I'm just tellin' ya!!!

The real question is why does Canon make it so difficult to get the shutter count. Are they hiding something?

I have downloaded EOSINFO but it continues to tell me there is no camera attached.
What am I doing wrong?
Very important, as the Mean women i married won't let me buy the 5dsr until I sell this body!!

I use this and it's free.

I use it for my T2i, 5D3 & my 1DIV. It looks like it supports the the 5D2.

I don't think v5 is out quite yet.

This is what the interface looks like. Love the time syn feature.

Only that they don't wish to embarrass Nikon or Sony with reliability numbers!

Jeez, don't even go there!

Not for the faint of hearts.....

Just as a matter of information: Having never found anything that works for my Canon 5DII I downloaded the Astrologic program, plugged in the camera, power cycled it as per instructions. The result: Program indicates "no camera connected." Unless I'm missing something here, the program does not recognize the 5DII.

Astrojargon.net's EOSInfo app works fine and appears to give an accurate shutter actuation count.

I just tested it on my 5DII, to be certain.

It's free, but available for Windows only.

Canon probably just wishes the whole "shutter count" thing would go away. It's really pretty meaningless.... some people even get silly about it.

While Canon "rated" the 5D classic, 5DII and III at something like 100,000 clicks, there have been more than a few that have done over 300,000, 400,000 or even 500,000 and are still working.

Not just Canon but most modern cameras either break within the first hours or days or weeks of use.... or live a very long, very happy life. The Mean Time Before Failure might be calculated as 100,000, but if the camera survives the factory warranty period it's likely to give many, many years of reliable service with reasonable care and handling.

The reason "shutter count" became an issue dates back to the 1990s and some of the the early digitals. They weren't the only ones who ran into the problem, but one of the most widely known examples was an Olympus model with a superb lens that a lot of pros were buying. They'd simply used a shutter adopted from one of their film cameras, didn't realize the digital shooters would take 5X, 10X or more shots than they did with film (after all, "digital is free").... So they were completely blind-sided when their cameras were being returned for shutter replacements after about 15,000 to 20,000 clicks.... Which can be 6 months or less use in the hands of a pro shooter. Since a lot of those repairs were being made under warranty, it probably made those cameras pretty unprofitable.... So Olympus and everyone else scrambled to produce higher durability shutters of ruse int their digitals and promoted their improvements with "estimated MTBF ratings" and other hype to address consumers' concerns.

Normally that means the program doesn't see your camera model. My t3i doesn't trigger it either. It seems designed for early Canon cameras, not the latest models. In fact, so I'm told, not all Canon models even keep track of the count. I know this doesn't do you much good now since you want to sell this camera but next time put your file numbering system on continuous... that's what I've done. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

My apologies. In my earlier post I meant to say Astrojargon. I've tried it several times according to directions and it does not recognize my Canon 5DII. I can only assume that it recognizes some, but not other 5DIIs. I am using Windows 10.

Japakomom, I use a Mac and was wondering how easy the Shutter count app is to use. I read the description on the App Store and it says you must use the EOS utility mode to connect or use. How does this work with my phone? This is new to me. Any help or explanation is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Try EOSMSG. It is free and seems to work quite well. http://www.eosmsg.com/

I have only tried it on Windows 10, but it claims to support multiple OS versions and Canon cameras.

And me as well. When I first downloaded ShutterCount from Dire Studios I had half my camera club asking for the count on their cameras. It was wildly successful as many members had bought theirs used and was curious as to the actuation's. One young lady had a Rebel T2i she had bought used a couple of years ago and it came in with 249,000 clicks, and still going strong.

OK I lied, you are correct that it worked on Windows 7 as well! Primarily I meant that I don't know about Mac, iOS, or Android.

However, working on W10 is a little more current in Mr. Softy land. I had a different utility that worked on W7 and broke on W10. Main thing is that it works, so getting Canon shutter count info isn't the problem that some people think it is. Does it even matter? Only if you're trying to sell a camera I guess. Interesting, sure I keep track of mine in the same way I look at the mileage on my vehicles, but it doesn't affect my daily life!
