If it didn't have rattlers I wouldn't worry. 30 years ago climbing up a rock outcropping came face to face with a huge timber rattler in a crevasse under a rock. His scales were as big as my fingernails. Luckily he had just gone in for the evening and didn't strike me in the face.

Thanx for the compliment...but to me he stood out from the background. I was on a hike & obody else saw him (or didn't want to).

It is an Eastern Garter Snake, Thamnophis siratilis
