It is of course, your call. But I do think it is silly. Well, maybe just an overreaction to a perceived conspiracy to steal family images. Once you give away the images you really have no control and if they did post them, so what.

I am not a great fan of FB, but I do find this really funny.

Watch out for those black helicopters!

I take pics at gatherings of family and friends and am willing to give anyone who wants one a CD of the pics. I am there as part of the gathering and not expecting to get any pay for the pics.

I am, however formulating a basic simple agreement for anyone who accepts a CD that they will not post any of the pics on Facebook. It is not a matter of money, but a matter of principle. Why should Facebook take possession of pics posted there. And they do that. They can use your pics in any way they choose and it is my understanding you have no say in the matter.

Any thoughts on this?

And, by the way, I do not have and never will have a Facebook account.

Stress in your agreement that you took the photos, that you own the copyright (it does not have to be registered; all registration does is document copyright as proven to and by the government) and nothing in the agreement is or may be construed as a full or partial waiver of your full rights, including but not limited to, reproduction, use, editing, printing and or distribution. But be careful. If someone puts a picture anywhere on line you will have to go after that person, not the site for copyright violation. Also, by the time there is a resolution to an infringement, the picture may have gone viral. Best course is to forbid anyone to do anything without your specific permission in writing which will severely limit what a person can do. Copyright agreements are available on line. Google "Copyright Agreement"

AMEN for that one. Isn't it wierd how people will spend much effort to type out messages on social media or texting on the cell, but ask them to engage in a real conversation?! Why, it is a regular act of treason. Maybe their brain has forgotten how to pronounce all that 'text english' they use.

Facebook has had a number of security issues in the past
I wonder how many divorces are caused by using this media?
Since I smelled trouble with this thing I never joined it.
It is also my understanding that "once a member always a member" irregardless of whether you choose to use it anymore or not.

lol I have facebook and love it, my kids are so busy I can't call without being told they have to go somewhere with their kids. so we all have facebook and can leave messages to each other to answer at our convenience. we live 2000 mile apart.

Me too, I'm on FB, I have family all over the country, and around the world. I find FB is the easiest way to stay in touch. My default privacy settings mean that my photos are shared with friends only, not friends of friends, I don't upload any high res stuff, I 'custom share' some of my albums, I pick and choose who gets to see my albums. I have one album which I share with just one friend, it's photos I have taken with her and for her, so nobody else needs to see them. We've found that FB suits us both for ease of sharing these photos. I have another album that I share with a specific group of my friends. FB is a quick and easy way for me to keep in touch with folks, and allows for us all to comment on each others photos and posts.

Facebook does not "own" your pictures and they do not "use" them. You control them in your own posts. As someone else said, I load a lower resolution/smaller pic and it is watermarked. Can someone steal it? Absolutely. Am I OK with that - if they want it that bad, I'll consider it a compliment!

I posted a pic on the National Park Foundation Facebook page - they posted it yesterday as a "fan favorite". As of this morning it had over 325 "Likes" and lots of cute comments (they ask people to come up with a caption). I'm flattered that so many people have seen and like my work. I figure it's good exposure! If someone wanted to copy the pic to use on their desktop, go for it! Like I said, the resolution is not the highest, so it's not going to be a great copy.

I figure I spend all this time taking pics - which I enjoy - but if no one ever gets to see and enjoy them, then why bother?? Just my opinion.

I wondered was I a grumpy old so and so but I opened a Facebook account and hated it. The language and the content was appalling at times.
Some of the content of people I know was a disgrace and very personal
But then that is people.......
Needless to say I shy away from social networking.
I would sooner read Oor Wullie or The Broons in The Sunday Post(UK)

This thread is a real gut buster...

C'mon...really? The Facebook Conspiracy?

How about any picture you post here?

Once it's online i'ts NEVER gone..trust me. It's on a server if you know how to get it....it's easy.

And anyway...what in the world do I care if someone wants a picture of my dog sitting on the couch?

Please; take it and enjoy.

Not sure why on one hand, anyone who is willing to give away photos to those who ask for them, then attaches conditions for their use?
If you give me something, it's should be mine to treat as i see fit, if it is not a gift, then it is simply a loan. Just trying to understand.
