Larry, I confused the issue when I mentioned the gimbal at all. My purpose was to show that the 393 came with the 357 plate and I'm using the same assembly on my mono. Essentially I want to attach the 357 to a tilt on the mono. I want to be able to leave the plate on my lens and switch it back and fourth between the mono and tripod. The 234RC is on the light side for an 80-400 or 200-500 and I don't want to over tighten the knob.

Just now tried it again and it works well except that the 234 knob won't tighten enough.

Thanks for replying,Dave.

I would like something more solid than the 234RC Q2 Tilt to mount this on for my 681b mono. It is a nice assembly, but I need the tilt feature for birding with the mono.

Thoughts to use my existing assemblies would be appreciated, need something solid to mount the 357 on to a tilt for my mono.
I have the Manfrotto 393 Gimbal and a 681B monopod... (show quote)

I have the same model monopod, I just put a little ball head on it that features an Arca Swiss mount and plate!

I want to maintain the interchangeabilty I now have. I need a beefier tilt and I'm good. When out and about with a bigger lens, I don't care for a ball head on a mono, but that's just me. Thank you for responding.

David does not deserve your abuse he is a great source of information and goes out of his way to try and help the folks on this forum, why did you join this forum if you just wish to abuse and shoot down people like David, if you do not like what you see just move on to the next topic or better yet move on to the next forum, there seems to be a glut of newer folks here being rude and mean.

I just found them at B&H and the plate from the 357 doesn't fit. If only the 234 wouldn't slip from lack of tightness!

I do not know Dave, or you. Dave was out of line in his response to me, which in my book is dishonorable. Then, he again behaved dishonorably by editing out his rudeness and quoting my response to his rudeness. I did not quote his rudeness. He asked for input concerning the monopod and large lens, and I gave my thoughts. He could have handled it differently but he chose to be rude. See all of my postings. When interacting in forums on the net, I behave exactly as I would if we were face to face. By default, I am respectful of others until they prove unworthy.

If Dave doesn't have the decency to clarify the exchange, my opinion is, you are defending someone unworthy of your efforts.

T Span,

My initial reply could have been more clearly stated. It's possible that you have not been on the site long enough to interpret the little smiley face below my response that would indicate to many that it was not meant to be a stinging reply. There is often a time lag between the time you hit send and when a message appears and you responded quickly. Maybe I was able to subsequently clarify my post. At any rate, I do apologize for my abruptness.

well that's pretty clear when you posted you answers to Dave's question, but there was no need for the drunk comments, you even have beer bottles as your profile posts and that is ok just no need to call someone a drunk when you do not know them except on this forum Dave has given much great advice that has helped me and hopefully others on the forum, sorry if I was rough on you just am so disappointed there are so many posts lately that are rude. thank you for responding

yeah just looks like a case of miscommunication, I have not used that kind of setup so I really have nothing to add though it was an interesting topic

The big deal was that from the way I wrote, it looked like I was trying to mount the 393 gimbal on the monopod. Later clarifications didn't seem to work either.
Anyway,it's all good and I should have directed it to a couple of the resident experts in a PM. I like putting things out there because there is a lot of experience to draw from. I didn't expect someone to tell me the gimbal tilts, silly me! Imagemeister is probably the best source for things like this and lens and TC combos and a lot of other things! Gene51 is another great source and certainly there are many others.

You two are a gas. Terry, it was Dave who said I must be drunk to use a gimbal on a tripod. Cigars and beer must look the same to you. I have been clean and sober for 27 years. After his rude remark, I answered with a snide remark which you have seen. He then edit out his rude remark to me with a civil response and quoted mine for all to see. I did not quote his. You have jumped on me twice for defending myself after being disrespected. Maybe you could take a long look in the mirror and determine why you think it is OK to jump on someone publicly as you have done. The first time I can understand that you did not know the story but still you judged before having all of the facts. The second time after I laid out the progression and yet you still feel the need to jump on my case. What is your reason to disrespect people on an internet forum?
