Very beautiful area. Thanks for sharing that photograph.

A gentle and interesting scene, R.G. Certainly the perfect location and weather for you to showcase the castle.

As regards the less-than-sunny weather, I've been told quite a few times that "it's what we expect from Scotland" - which suits me because it's what I got most of during my short stay there. There were sunnier times but I was elsewhere.
I'm glad you find the scene "gentle", but I don't think that word would describe the place's history. Thanks for your comments.
This is such a peaceful scene and the colors are very soothing.

Thank you Andrea. There are times when soft light can be an advantage.

I suspected as much :) I was just referring to the weather and your subtle pp.

Thanks. It would be kind of difficult to convey the place's history with a scenic shot like this. When people describe the area's history, they usually use words like "turbulent". So I'll just settle for trying to capture how picturesque the area is :-) .
Just beautiful R.G.! The castle is familiar to me otherwise only because it is on the cover of a candy tin I've had for years, now used to store small items! Must go look up the history now....

While your processing has hit the mark you were after I wonder if the framing has? For me R.G. a tighter crop all the way around, seems more water and sky than castle. The mountains in the back will still show the vastness, and the bridge gives the sense of isolation. Just a thought, well done sir.

I certainly hope you have more like this to show. One could become addicted to scenes like this.

R.G.,
Knowing some history, I agree that 'Gentle' does not properly describe the area and the historical aspect of the castle. My wife and I talked to a tour guide stationed in the castle and he was very informative.
I would say that your shot portrays a more 'Gentle' picturesque view of the Castle from the 'opposite' side that is normally chosen for that Castle. I very much like this spot where you had taken the shot seeing the more picturesque, but yet majestic look of the Highlands in the background. Very nicely done and refreshing.

I hate to sound redundant but this is such an interesting scene. It makes me think of all the history that castle witnessed. Imagine the stories, clothes, food, odors.... As for the photo, I would have removed that white pole in the middle, reduced the foreground water to get a big sky look, worked the sky differently, brought out the castle more and considered doing this as a panorama. Thanks for posting these pictures for us armchair travelers.

I've been fortunate to see this many times and I think you convey the scene pretty well here. The castle and adjacent headland in very flat colour with the rest of the landscape in blues / greys reminiscent of a Lake District scene.
I think I prefer the view from the other side on a low tide, maybe with a partial reflection and a little weed showing.
