DPP can read it own raw file which is Canon so the white balance will be correct now try what I said. Save the RAW as a tif which will embed the white balance and export to photoshop.

what do you mean? I have not *done* anything to these images in any software yet. All I have done is open them.

I have been using PS since version 5 - not CS5, 5. Pretty sure I know how to open a file... I have never used DPP before, and never had a need to. How much do you suggest I need to learn, in order to follow along a couple of basic steps demonstrated on a video? Nowhere in any of the videos I have watched did it say anything about saving a tiff. They all say "use DPP to get rid of the colour cast", except it doesn't *have* a colour cast when opened in DPP!

Did you even read the post? I opened the same image in 2 different programs, and took a screen capture of each. That is it.
what do you mean? I have not *done* anything to ... (show quote)

When you export the profile make sur Lightroom is closed.

They don't do that on the videos, just restart afterwards. Still, I am game for anything so I did that. LR still doesn't see the new profile when I open it afterwards...-

DPP will not save the file as a tiff... The only option under 'save as' is .CR2.

DPP will not 'save' as TIFF but you can 'convert and save' to JPEG, 8 bit or 16 bit TIFF, also you can transfer directly to Photoshop under the tools menu options in DPP

THANK YOU!!!! Someone finally gave me a straight answer! That looks like it actually works...! I was starting to wonder if I somehow had a different version than everybody else or something...

This so-called expert I have been dealing with at LifePixel has been training people in IR for some 12 years he said, yet he has never once mentioned this. He actually suggested this evening that maybe I should consider booking (and paying for...) an online session! So far, most of what he told me during last night's online session has been worse than useless... He just keeps saying 'make your adjustments in DPP then save as a tiff...'. The adjustment I needed to make was to the colour/white balance, and there is nothing to adjust if the program reads the image properly...

Now at least I can see some light at the end of the tunnel, and it isn't all red!

Thanks again...

Looking forward to seeing you post a successful IR conversion. Once you have done a couple and built up your confidence, it will be different.

Good luck.

When I started with infrared, I knew very little. My camera was converted by Lifepixel. I learned all about infrared from their website and there was less then then there is now. You should not blame Lifepixel for what you don,t know. It's your responsibility to study software, techniques and practice. It's no ones job to spoon feed you. Good luck I love IR hope you will too.

I forgot to follow this thread but after going through all the posts, have you been able to provide people here with the raw file as UHH does not allow that large a file size?

You can use a site such as http://ge.tt to accomplish that without even needing an account.

That might let people see exactly what you are dealing with - that jpg image you posted a while back seemed fine for channel swapping in photoshop.

You might ask here also. http://global-infrared.freeforums.net

The moderator there uses Canon if I recall correctly and there is at least one person who is channel swapping 590nm on a consistent basis.
