Donna, I had a small problem develop with my D700 about 11 months after I got it. I dealt directly with Nikon and sent it in for repair.

Here's the good part. Once they repaired it, it came back with an extended warranty expiration date. I was also advised that I could send it back prior to that expiration date and have it cleaned, adjusted, overall inspection, etc. again, at no charge. I did this.

So, by dealing directly with Nikon, which is probably what B and H will tell you to do anyway, you'll benefit.

Great to know, Bob. Thanks! Now if only I could find the little warranty piece of paper. Can't believe I need that.

I had a similar problem--the focus point wouldn't move. I had inadvertently switched the focus selector lock switch from the dot to the L position. Easy enough to do in the dark.

I just did the same thing while shooting in Yellowstone two weeks ago. I thought I was the only one that could accomplish something like that!

Hi all,

The Nikon D7100 I bought in May has been acting erratically since I got it but I kept thinking it must be me. I often have to shoot in manual because I can't trust the aperture priority setting. Now the focus button won't move off center position and I'm getting some shutter lag that shouldn't be happening. Tonight in the middle of a Homecoming game I had to switch completely to my old (5-6 years old) D5100.

I've never returned anything to Nikon but since this is only 5 months old - bought from B&H - I'm wondering if I should return to Nikon or if I should just have the company I shoot for fix it. I have used this camera HEAVILY since
May - for a wedding, bird/nature photography and over 40 sports events
where I average 1000 shutter actuations per. In other words the camera
probably has over 50K shutter actuations already.

What do you mean over 50 k proablym

How long does it usually take for Nikon to do a repair? Any experience with this?

Thanks!
Donna

What do you mean probably over 50 k don't you know . There is ways to check . Maybe it's over 150 thousand clicks . Sounds like you bought it used or refurbished . It shouldn't have problems at 50 k

I was basing that on the jobs I've done since I got it and the number of images taken at each one on average. No, I didn't buy it refurbished. I'm returning it for service tomorrow. Yes, I know there are ways to know the exact shutter actuations. Just not sure how on this camera and it doesn't matter. It's been giving me problems since day 1 but I kept giving it the benefit of the doubt and blamed myself. When it works right it takes beautiful shots.
