We are on the Channel Island of Jersey for a couple of weeks and not to far from our house is the church of St Matthew. It dates back to 1840 when it was built as a 'chapel of ease' so that the inhabitants of the Millbrook district would no longer have to travel up the hill to the ancient parish church of St Lawrence.

THE GLASS CHURCH
Lady Florence Trent (the wife of Jesse Boot of the Boots stores chain) commissioned Rene Lalique to refurbish the church in 1934 and his Art Deco Masterpiece is the most beautiful glass creations I have seen, and sadly its almost impossible to capture the full beauty of his work in pictures.
I would urge anyone visiting these beautiful island to visit St Matthew's.

Enjoyed them, Geoff! Are those windows in the last shot, or just lighted glass sculpture? Look almost as if done in ice. Nice series, keep them coming!

Thanks FB, To my knowledge this is the only work of this kind he did, everything except the pews, the door frames and the brickwork is glass, its quite unique and beautifully tactile,
Thanks again, Its always much appreciated,

Geoff
