Has anyone preordered the new Sony alpha a7rii? Due out on August 5 at $3195. Have the Sony a6000 and love it. Specs for the new camera seem awesome. Any comments. Travel a lot and am considering buying a second a6000 or the new camera.

I too have the A6000 and love it. The new one is a little bit $$$ for me now but I'm thinking of starting a fund for it. Want to hear about it first. Let us know if you get it and if you like it

The only negative I see in the new full frame is it uses the same battery as the a6000 and battery life is poor and here is only one SD slot in the full frame. To extend battery life on the A6000 I put it in airplane mode. I have the Sony lenses 16-70, 18-200 and 35 1.8. I called Sony and these three lenses would work perfect on the full frame except, of course, the crop factor would not be there. The choice of lenses is still quite poor. Have been a Nikon shooter for many years and currently use a D810. Travel a lot and the Nikons are ruining my hands.

If the choice of lenses for Sony E mount cameras is poor, then what about other cameras? No camera in the world today can use more lenses then the Sony A7xx lineup. I have about 100 lenses for this camera and all lenses for the major brands can be used on the Sony. It is the main advantage of that camera. But of course, if you want to use it as a point and shoot, that will limit the lens selection considerably.

The battery issue is there, but for $20-30 you can buy a charger and couple extra batteries that will ensure enough power for a day in most cases.

I think the A7rII is a very intersting camera. I have the original version and it is a great camera except for the battery issue which I solved with a few bucks for extra batteries and it is not good in low light/high ISO situations. But that is probably solved with the new backlit sensor in the new model. From the specs alone it is a camera that is far better than Nikon D810 and the new Canon 5Ds cameras. That I say because of the in camera stabilizing that works with every lens you put on it and because of the low light capabilities of the sensor, and because of the resolution and because of the ease of using almost any lens on it with the right adaptor, and because the ease of manual focusing which is unrivaled by any other full frame camera. So I highly recommend that people have a good look at this camera when it comes out. I am quite sure I will have one of those even though I have had my A7r for only 8 months.

The problem I have is weight. I travel on at least two long trips per year. That is the reason why I got the a6000. The problem is I always travel with two cameras and used the D610 and D810 with the three holy trinity lenses. Am 66 now and my arthritic hands are shot. My plan in November, when I will be going to New Zealand, is to travel with the A6000 and the Sony 16-70 and 18-200. Would also take my D810 with the 70-200 2.8 and 1.4 teleconverter. I am tempted in ordering the new full frame Sony or just buy a second a6000 as my two travel cameras. I hesitate in getting a second a6000 since I will always wonder what the new Sony full frame would do for me. Any thoughts?

Bought two extra batteries and a wall charger when I bought the A6000. That is the way to solve the battery problem

If I would use my Nikon lenses on the Sony it would add weight and defeat the purpose of the camera for me. I need to go lighter. Of course, shoot in raw and use Lightroom. Do not use my cameras as point and shoots

Ok, to travel light I have a suggestion for you. I am often using an old Olympus 75-150 zoom lens on my A7r and that lens combined with some old manual wider lenses that fit your photography habits could be your solution. One of the things I like most about the Sony A7r is how easy it is to manual focus with the one button focus peaking. You could also use f.x. an old Nikkor AF-G 28-80 mm plastic lens. That is very light and the lens is sharp enough for 99% of what you may use it for. Took this picture tonight with that lens but on my Nikon D600, not the A7r.

Do you need an adapter for the Olympus? I see your gear list is similar to mine. Long and costly. Have a GAS issue for the Sony a7rii. Do not want to feel sorry I did not get it as my main travel camera with the a6000 as my backup. Is there a good 300 mm lenses for the Sony 7 series or a teleconverter that can make a 200 mm longer for my tripod use?

This lens is on ebay all the time. Here is one. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Excellent-NIKON-NIKKOR-AF-28-80mm-F-3-3-5-6-G-Zoom-Lens-/331603643306?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4d351e0baa

And I can promise it is as light as you can possible get.

Yes, I am using an adapter for the olympus, see here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Adapter-Olympus-OM-Lens-to-Sony-NEX-E-mount-Alpha-A5000-7R-A3000-A7-A7R-A6000-/201244730093?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2edb1ee2ed

I am not sure about what to recommend as a good 200 mm lens or teleconverter for the Sony. For this reach I am using an old Sigma 135-400 lens that fits Nikon. It is not very good, but not bad either.

If you are talking about the Nikon lens here, then you can use any cheap adapter. I think that you can not autofocus it on the Sony, but I am not sure as I have not bought an autofocus adapter like Metabones or other similar.

I am watching the Sony rumors for the A6000/NEX7 replacement, which is supposedly to be called the A7000. If it is what the rumors are saying, it will be really something.

The rumors are saying new sensor with one shot HDR with 15.5 f-stop range and 5 axis stabilization.

Rumor mill says it was supposed to be released with the A7Rii, but they had a problem to fix. Best guess is now end of summer or early fall.
