Double check you shutter speed. Most cameras have a shutter sync speed between 125 th and 250.

Are those reflective or diffusion umbrellas?

i had to ask because I just spent two days trying to figure out why I could not vary the aperture setting in any shooting mode on my D700.

Idiot! Turn off 'aperture lock' at CS f8!
(It could happen.)

they are shoot thru diffusion

From what I see in your second shot you've got the umbrellas facing the wrong way. The light is not supposed to have to travel through the umbrellas but be reflected off of them to the subject. There could be a sync problem but first turn those umbrellas around.

I did a career in television news / sports photography and never did I ever see umbrellas reversed like you have them in the second shot.

Good Luck

It's a sync problem- commander mode fires the monnolights early. That's the way it worked in our studio.

So then what do I do?

This is my last post from you other thread:

Don't own a 900 but the 800 has a setting called SU 4.
That's the slave mode and you can adjust the power manually in that mode.
Did you get a sync cord for the monolights? There is a fitting right under the "D300" on the front of your camera called a PC outlet. if you got one, plug the cord into that and the other end into a fitting somewhere on your monolight. Set the rest on slave. If you didn't get a cord....hmmm. Set the popup flash to manual on fairly low power. The pop-up flash should trigger them all if you play with the power. And as a couple others mentioned, make sure you shutter speed is not too high- 1/60 should cover it.

FINALLY I got it I had the two strobes set on on norm one on slave, then the speed light on the ground set on the su4 and the transmitter on my hotshoe and the receiver on the norm mono light and they all flashed... THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!

I never read instructions either, good job new you would figure it out. Its usually something simple once you dissect the situation and settings. Look forward to seeing your photos.

I think a lot of us here are visual people and would prefer to be shown. I hate reading manuals too.

ok so i took some shots with that light set up that we have been discussing here, of my daughters friend before the "client" showed up. they came out great. Problem is when I uploaded them to the camera I hit delete on a few of the pics that were before hers and before my eyes they started deleting so fast I had to shut off my computer for fear that the "clients" pictures would delete as well. As it turned out a few did but I was using some of the last pictures from the shoot. Ends up I did not use the light set up we have been discussing for the client I absolutely not get a good look. Should i post the shot here or on a new topic? New topic I think I know what I did wrong, since I spent the entire day yesterday with lighting tutorials and referring to other posts here. Long post ...sorry

I think you should post them here so the people that have been involved with the problem will see the results.
