What you eat as well as premarital sex, or extra-marital sex is not tied to a persons salvation. If you are true to your faith then premarital sex, or extra-marital sex is out, of course but what you eat is meaningless. "Consider it a white lie"? You are saying that the Bible is a lie - to me and other Christians you are saying that God lies since the Bible is the inspired Word of God.
The Shrimping Industry in Louisiana monitor the shrimp in the waters off shore to make sure that the shrimp are safe to eat. Shrimp boats can be shut down at any time if the shrimp are harmful for human consumption.

No, don't twist things, a common sense way of protecting the flock and a excellent good reason for being part of a moral religion. A "white" lie is a good thing. Prove god wrote anything... other then someone else said it was so.
All of the things the bible says you can't do, are perfectly safe to do. Unless disease is present, or someone else who takes exception. ie, if you kill someone, you are not immediately struck down by god. If you covet your neighbors wife- it's all good till her husband catches you... It is perfectly "safe" to kill someone. It is perfectly safe to eat shellfish... Pork is "clean", your cheating neighbors willing wife is "safe" to "visit". Morally, and religiously, and in the presence of disease and lawfully- they are not.
So explain why are certain things are itemized in the bible? And please consider when it was written, and how much older some of the "laws" it contains were enacted. . Explain why pork is out, shellfish and premarital or extra marital sex?, we've incorporated many of the previously religious laws into our penal law.
And yes, duh... these "victimless" crimes are considered a sin, along with all the other moral laws- no other animal on earth follows any law- they can steal, kill, have sex with and do whatever they wish. Not following the religious laws then is subject to an age old tradition of a threat from every pulpit there ever was of being held accountable on your day of salvation. In addition, and/or separate, are the penal laws of the state.
I do not believe the bible was written by God. Once again that is a fire and brimstone threat directed by anybody who questions any part of it - like you are doing. As a student of history, there are too many gods for me to nitpick which one is the real one, and too much corruption in every one at one time or another. However, I respect most of some and perhaps at least part of them all, for the moral compass and uplifting positive effect they have on society. And when corrupted and poses a detrimental effect on society, like we see in the middle east, I don't have any problem of waging or labeling it a "religious" war. I don't like islam or mohammed much- they have given me no reason to think otherwise- at any level. I don't like Christianity much as practiced in pre-Columbian America, or in the middle ages.
So I embrace the wisdom of the white lies they do for our own good. And I believe in god... mine is the one that created yours and all the rest- and he ain't on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel- but the metaphor is.
