With due respect, you were taught wrong. The very word testament or Covenant means an agreement or for our modern time, a contract. The Contract was an agreement made between God and His chosen people the Jews. The agreement was written in stone known as the Ten Commandments. The New Covenant or Testament is written in the Blood of Jesus Christ.

Hence, you have the New Testament based on the Old Testament but made better through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

There were five covenants in the O.T.

Yes, and if you'll go to my link about the covenants, you'll see that the New Covenant was prophesied in Jeremiah. What is the New Covenant? Here is a good explanation.

Yes, the Bible is the INSPIRED Word of God. Of course God Himself did not write the Bible but inspired men who wrote in parts over a period od time.
