I'm guessing that your third paragraph reflects your personal dietary likes and dislikes rather than any Biblical restriction. As to your first paragraph, however, how does one discern which of the things in the Old Testament apply today?
There are many prophesies in Isaiah, and Ezekiel still to be fulfilled. Some in Daniel, which are controversial according to your prophetic viewpoint. In fact there are yet many scattered throughout the Old Testament, that still have a future fulfillment.
There are quite a few "though shall not's" that are general in application, that do not apply only to Israel. It takes some serious study to find, and determine which do, and do not apply in general.
Most of the teachings in the New Testament, are based on the Old Testament. As Solomon said, there is nothing new under the sun.
While much of the Old Testament is about Jewish history, and general laws, still much is applicable to the day.
Usually when it is directed only toward the nation of Israel, it is pretty obvious. And is so stated. :)

Thanks. It wasn't intended to be a gotcha question, but I was hoping for a simpler answer. (Or at least an easier to apply answer)

Really! there is no easier to apply answer. Only sifting it like flour, removes the kernels. :) Really Jesus teaching in the Gospels, will reveal their connection to Old Testament scripture. That is a good place to start, and get a general idea of how to look at the Old Testament scriptures.
Isaiah 24,25,26, called Isaiah's little apocalypse is yet future, and is very much Revelation based.
Psalm 83 is an on going prayer for deliverance from Israelis enemies, but yet also a prophesy of a war, that is not to far into the future coming. The particular group of nations mentioned here, is yet to be assembled.
Hose 6:1-3 is about the restoring of Israel to the Lord, and gives us some realization of the time that is at hand.
And so on. :)
Good for them.... There is a rather popular Presbyterian Pastor who says that Christ does not exist...(I know others on the hogg say the same thing) but this man is a pastor, who makes his living preaching in a Church..... The scripture is very plain on the subject, so I will stick with it..

The Author of the book of Leviticus must of had a bad shellfish experience ...
No doubt if the bible were written today, peanuts
would also be on the list.

I avoid shrimp when possible, although they are delicious!
Quote:
The highest rates of incidental catch of non-target species as identified by Alverson et al (1994) and other workers is associated with shrimp trawling. The use of selection technology in reducing the incidental catch of non-shrimp in temperature waters does, however, seem to be affecting the amount of bycatch discarded and recent evidence, suggests that in many parts of the world tropical shrimp bycatch which was once discarded is now being utilised. The figures which suggest that large quantities of fish are wasted in certain regions may be over estimates because it had been assumed that non-shrimp catches from tropical shrimp fisheries was automatically equated to discards. (See Table 11)

That is truly fascinating I wonder what would motivate a congregation to employ a non-Christian as a Christian preacher. (One can not be a Christian if one denies the deity of Christ).
