I have no expertise when it comes to the F-35 vs F-22 Raptor but I can't believe this country would put highly trained pilots in planes that are inferior to Russian aircraft. That is like knowingly sending them to their deaths. It just doesn't seem possible.

I sympathise with how you feel, but military history is full of stories of the USA, and many other countries, getting into wars with inferior fighter aircraft. WW2 is a prime example, Japanese Zero's and the German Messerschmitt F109 were superior to anything we had when we entered the war. Later, it was a very different story. :-(
Isn't that the plane that won't be able to fire its guns for several years? As for why Israel is buying them, who knows? We learn about 1% of what goes on behind closed doors.
Thanks to all those who gave me their opinions on the F-35. I couldn't respond yesterday individually because my internet was very slow(first time in two years, can't really complain)
Having read all the comments I'm still on the fence on this aircraft. I guess we won't know for sure until it's fully deployed. I just don't see us getting a lemon after such stealth success as the F-17, B-2 and the F-22. My concern is if the F-35 turns out to be lemon than we would be in serious trouble since the F-22 is no longer in production.

Nothing to be concerned about at all.
Does anyone here remember the FB-111? It was essentially the same idea as the F-35--one plane to do everything (love the FB designation) and designed from the start for both the navy and the air force. It didn't work very well. The navy never took any of them. The air force bought a few as bombers. Whenever I see anything on the F-35 it sounds like the same deal -- very advanced in some ways but too many compromises. Of course times change, technology advances, etc., but I suspect that the concept itself is mistaken.
The F35 is currently being deployed to active units. It was planned and designed to bring commonality to nato forces. What it does it does really well, but is not the fighter the F22 is.
The excuse for killing the F22 was that it was so advanced we didn't need it. Now the Russians are in early testing of a virtual carbon copy, and China will have one flying in under 3 years.
The stupidest reason ever for cancelling a plane.

Yes, and the fewer you make of something, the more each one costs.
If any of you are aeronautical engineers, you can address this issue. Otherwise, do not talk about something you know nothing about. I live 10 minutes from Luke AFB, where the pilots will be trained. They do take the training seriously.
I work for the company that makes both. How bout serving yourself that big cup of shut the he'll up.
Why Robert you ole anti Semite. Like to hear from you it only reinforces our perception of your worthlessness! Keep up the good work!
BTW the sheet you bought is really off white!

I'd like to know the source of your claims here...this isn't even close to the truth.
What are the capabilities of the F-35?
What is the Russian fighter that you are comparing it to?
What are the capabilities of that Russian fighter?
I've been involved in building and designing military aircraft all of my adult life and it just seems to me that this isn't grounded in reality.
Although I am no an aeronautical engineer nor have I designed air frames, but I do know that an air craft like the JSF that was designed to do everything for all branches of the military, simply can't. Each branch has specific needs and a one size fits all sounds good but just won't work as well as fighters that are designed foe the specific branches. The "warthog" is a great example of a plane designed foe close air support. The F35 cannot do that job.
Did any of you "experts" know that there is an Air Force version and a Navy/Marine Corps version?
