you don't need photoshop, it can be done in camera.

Get the lens as close to the fence as possible (don't touch the fence, you'll scratch the lens). Shot with a large aperture, wait till your subject is away from the fence. You'll create a DoF that works for you and makes the fence disappear.

I've run into this problem, too. Gotta try this!

now.. here is my question! You are taking a picture through a chain link fence ..

Barb , I'm sure this is not the solution you are looking for but when I go out purposely to shoot for a day or even a half a day, in the back of my truck are two essential pieces of photo gear, they solve a lot off shooting problems for me. One is a two foot aluminum step stool (very light) and the other is an 8 foot fruit ladder. Both come in very handy. I think you can get the picture (pun intended). It's not for every situation but even a 12" stool will get you above most crowds. Most commercial chainlink is 6 foot tall. Don't know about the zoo, been a long while since I've been.

Sharp..
Thanks for the info! I already carry about a 2' step stool in my trunk (I am only 5' so it does come in handy!) My problem is in another areas of the country (I can not carry ladders on airplanes!) .. also on snow & ice & not level ground .. so your suggestion, altho a great one .. will not really work for my problem! I know pictures have been taken & turn out great through the fence .. just not sure how they shot them! Thanks for your suggestions tho! :)

I can relate to this — I'm only 5' myself. I have a friend who has arthritis and needs a step stool to get into my truck. She has a collapsible plastic one about a foot high that's lightweight and, when folded up, would fit nicely in a suitcase. She takes it with her horseback riding.
