I think I've got it. Steam punk refers to a genre which influences style. I would never have known.

You are getting there. They dress up etc. My daughter is into "cosplaying" (costume playing) dressing up as characters in Anime, Manga and on line video games. Many of her friends are also into steampunk, they sort of associate with each other, make costumes and props etc. When I said "Oh, re-enactors." she snapped back: "Those are old guys pretending to be in the Civil War."

Get a 19th century or Victorian era dress (pants and coat for a man) and add a hat or bonnet with a funky looking set of goggles and you are at the beginning level of steam punk dress.

Leave off the goggles and you can take part in a Dickens festival.

The steam punkers accept our traditional conductors "penguin suit" uniform as fitting in. Some of the operations people have added goggles to their conductors hat or wear a black top hat or bowler in place of the traditional billed conductor's cap. The steam crew just add a hat and maybe goggles since one steam punk style is 19th century workman's clothing or overalls with accessories like heavy black smith's gloves.

The 17th and 18th OERM (located in Perris, Ca Riverside County) is having their steam weekend with Ventura County #2 Prairie type being the featured engine. It is also "Behind The Scenes" weekend, a once a year event where guests get a guided tour of areas normally off limits, in some cases areas most members can get to only by joining a work crew in a maintenance or restoration project.
Admission for nonmembers: ages 12 and up - $12, children 5 to 11 - $8, children 4 and under are free. Members get in free, so if you join you not only get this event but the museum newsletter and one year of access to everything but the annual Thomas event. $40 for individuals and $60 for a family (2 adults and their children under 18)
Nice one.
Go to the museum website by searching for oerm and click on the site to get all the information, directions etc.

I lived 38 years in Lake Elsinore so am very familiar with this. I highly recommend it. Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention.

This reminds me of the Illinois Railroad Museum. And for some interesting train photography, look up O. Winston Link.

Nice Photo robertje. Did I ever tell you I own a Santa Fe Prairie Locomotive? Of course it's a HO model but easier to store. Looks just like mine, only about 87 times larger.

Nice, Robert! I had a brass prairie that I was almost finished with when one of my boys stole it and sold it for drugs.

Excellent! I may very well see you there. Which day is less crowded?

I took these in July of 2013. I don't remember paying to get in and a volunteer, who's name I forget, took Eric and me to all the buildings and let us photograph as long as we liked. He also gave us the history of everything there. The only building he couldn't let us into was a storage building where the store parts and pieces.

When did you leave Elsinore?
The museum has changed greatly in the last decade. Lots of building projects and upgrades.

Probably costs less to run also.
To the best of my knowledge two of the locomotives in our collection have been released as HO models. Both Southern Pacific; #1474 Alco S-12 switcher and #3100 GE U25-B road switcher (as an HO this one is in it's 1976 bicentenial red, white and blue with a special number for that year - we have it restored to it's working colors)
