Is there an option on the lens itself to shoot in manual. Perhaps, this choice was inadvertently made and unbeknownst to you, you are shooting in manual focus?

Tamron 70-200mm @ 200mm ISO Auto (2500) f/8 1/250 AI-SERVO, stabilizer on, hand held, on a Canon 7D MII body. I realize the noise at 2500 will be a lot, but why would it be so much OOF. I've shot other times like this and they were tack on.

You are shooting at a shutter speed of 250th. sec with the zoom at 200mm, so that speed should be fast enough to avoid camera shake. BUT you have the lens stabilization set to ON. I think that this is causing your problem, it's
like having the stabilizer on when using a tripod, the system gets confused and actually introduces shake. When the focal length is lower than the reciprocal of the shutter speed stabilization should not be required. just MHO.

Seasons greetings,

Pete.

IMHO camera has problem to focus on such subject without contrast.

You might want to clean the contacts also - you get strange symptoms when the contacts are dirty...

I did the af micro adjustment process.

I would also get a target to check the AF. I use the DataColor SpyderLensCal. It consists of a vertical target that you auto focus on and a scale that is tilted at 45 degrees that allows you to evaluate the front/back focusing.

Did you do the adjustments wrong? Do a test shoot with the lens on you did the adjustments with and then with one you did not do the adjustments with. After writing the above I re looked at the down load again. It sure looks like camera shake or maybe even a lose part in the camera. Does it do this with all the lenses or just the one on for the pix? If only that lens, the lens might have a loose part. Does the lens rattle. Does the vr make a noise. Does it do the same when the vr is off? These are things I would be checking.

Sorry, but that's rubbish - there is not one single thing in the picture that is in focus - ergo - camera shake!

Looks like camera movement to me.

I did this test 5 minutes ago. I draw black cross on a paper sheet and took 2 pictures. 1-st one I focused on the cross and the second one very close to cross mayby 1 inch aside. You can see result.

Did you try using a tripod?

I just tested this with the same lens and body. Focus is spot on hand held @ 1/125. The horse pic must be camera shake. I'll try again today and post.

Was the AF focus set to average or spot? With so many large things in the background, who knows where it really focused?

It doesn't look all that dark, why lrt the camera pick such a high ISO?

You may want to take the camera out of Al Servo mode. It made a difference on another Hogs photos.
