Trying to figure out why this horse is so OOF.
Tamron 70-200mm @ 200mm ISO Auto (2500) f/8 1/250 AI-SERVO, stabilizer on, hand held, on a Canon 7D MII body. I realize the noise at 2500 will be a lot, but why would it be so much OOF. I've shot other times like this and they were tack on.

Have you tried another lens? Could be the lens has an issue - or the camera has a focus issue....

Try with stabilization off as well.

I'm gonna agree, camera movement. Looks like ya 'jabbed' the shutter release, rather than squeezing it.

IMHO of course.

Can someone run the 'focus point indicator' program for this pic?

I tried the focuspoint plugin for Lightroom, but got back an error that it could not find any focus point info....

Me too. I'm going to say your speed is to slow and you were moving.

Happens to me all the time because I never use a tripod.

You might want to clean the contacts also - you get strange symptoms when the contacts are dirty...

I would also get a target to check the AF. I use the DataColor SpyderLensCal. It consists of a vertical target that you auto focus on and a scale that is tilted at 45 degrees that allows you to evaluate the front/back focusing.
