I'll give all your "nasty" Nikon gear a good home... ;)

Sorry but you will not get any of my gear! I have never said I am selling anything, I am just adding to my collection. I am not committed to any brand although Nikon is my highway I sometimes take the side roads as well.

Looking at your list of gear, get the 1D X! Round out your collection!

Do you really need 10 or 15 FPS? Perhaps what you need is a movie camera, not a dSLR camera.
Even when there have been lots of talk lately about Scott Kelby switching to Canon for the speed I find that Nikon cameras, at least for me have all the speed I need for my wildlife photography and sports. I know that we are all different but even my D2H, an old camera capable of 8 FPS I use at 5 FPS when shooting wildlife and for me that is enough performance. If I did not get with that the action I wanted then I need to improve on my technique.
Unfortunately I am not the one to tell you which of the cameras you mention is a good choice but I dare to say that surely not everybody needs 10 FPS to shoot wildlife.

Of course I do not really need 15 fps. But since I am interested in buying a sports and action camera it may as well be the best I can afford. There are actually 3 cameras that I am interested in for this purpose. The Samsung NX1, the Canon 7Dmii and the Nikon 1V3.

In most terms the Nikon 1V3 is the best camera for this purpose because it has 15 fps and a 70-300 lens (equals 810 mm full frame) is available for it that has good image stabilizer and autofocus is very good on this camera. Total price for camera and lens is maybe around $2.200.

Then there is the new Canon 7Dmii, that is much slower and at a price for the body alone that is almost the same as the total price for the Nikon 1V3 body and lens combo. But I guess the Canon will deliver better iq and need less work in pp.

And at last I am looking at this new Samsung NX1 that is as fast (fps) as the Nikon 1V3, has APS-C sensor with much more megapixels than both the Canon and Nikon and priced right in the middle of the other two. But I do not know much about this camera. I see a rather negative comments about previous Samsung cameras but also that they have taken notice of consumer experience when designing this new one. So it is an interesting choice. But I need to know if autofocus is delivering the specs all the way to the pics taken and I need to check lens availability for that camera.

At the moment the Nikon 1V3 and the 70-300 seem to be the very best bang for the buck, Samsung NX1 nr 2 and then Canon 7Dmii most expensive and well behind the others in fps and modernization like wifi and such helpful things that are getting into many cameras today. But maybe Canon has a tad better image quality and if it is a noticeable difference, then it matters also.

From a purely technical standpoint, Canon is a better choice, and the 7D's are an excellent choice. However, if you buy one, have the internal screws sealed by a local shop if you have one. They ALL come loose and can short out the circuit boards. I've repaired many of them and it's a known issue among the camera tech community. Other than that, Canon is actually a more maintenance free camera.

Nikon has some known issues with their shutters and aperture mechanisms. I can't tell you how many hundreds of them I've had to replace. Don't get me wrong, Canon shutters have a life span and I've replaced my fair share of them as well. Overall though, Canon is a better built camera.

I have read a lot of positive comments about the New Canon 7d mkii as the best sports camera now with 10 fps and priced at around $2.000

As I am a long time Nikon user, but sometimes on the look for other options I was thinking if this new Canon would be my entry ticket to Canon. I am year by year getting more and more time for my photography and was thinking about a sports camera for next spring, and therefore looking at the new Canon 7d mk ii.

But now when I am studying this on the internet another camera with much better specs and price keep popping up on my screen. So my question is, has anyone here got the Samsung NX1? If so, how good is it.

I see it has 4K video, which is not much for me as I am rarely doing videos. But it also has 15 fps, 28 mpx sensor, three times more focus points and much lighter and slimmer plus lot of other features that the Canon has not. Plus it is $4-500 cheaper. Actually the only thing in favor of Canon here is more lenses available for the Canon.

But specs is one thing, real life use is another, so I am curious about if any members here have any experience with the Samsung NX1.

What would you recommend I buy, the Canon or the Samsung?

YIKES!! I just checked out the Samsung NX-1 on the Best Buy website. The body is prices a bit on the high end at $1500.00, but you can have the 15--50 lens for an additional paltry sum of $1200.00. That must be one heck of a lens! Doesn't look like Samsung has the entry level or consumer level photographer as its target base.

You may want to think twice about buying a Samsung camera. They're basically a Pentax and not well built AND they're proud of it. If anything goes wrong with it, parts are next to impossible to get and their service department is virtually non-existent. That pretty much goes for Pentax as well.

rj, as long as we have your attention. I shoot sports in the rain and have been very impressed with the uTube from LensRentals where they show the weather sealing on the new 7Dmkll. Do the Canon 1D cameras have better sealing than the 7ll, or the same?
I read a lot of the weather sealing of the Pentax cameras but have never seen anything that actually shows it. How does the sealing in the Pentax compare to the Canon 7ll ?
rj, thanks in advance.

Hold them both in your hand, play with them and decide. I have not yet held the 7DII but the 7D is built like a tank, so I expect the same from the 7DII. Plus, you have the huge array of lenses for Canon which no one else can match.

Samsung no longer has anything to do with Pentax has not in a few years the last one was the GX20 a clone of the K-20 Pentax that was in 2008 so you need to get your facts straight as for Pentax service there has been very few complaints from the people that have had to use them in the past 6 or seven years

lol :) . You are too funny. Canon and Cannon need to put you on the payroll or at least make you an ambassador.

Your title was the "best" dslr for sports. The answer is Nikon D4S.

Thanks for the tip. But my title was and is "best consumer dslr". That was on purpose to exclude the Nikon D4 and the Canon 1Dx

The 1D's had a great weather seal. Better than the 7D's but you still need some kind of jacket in the rain. There are lots of good ones out there and the uTube souds as good or better than most.

I shoot sports photography for a living and I think you are asking the wrong question. If you aren't going to buy a "professional" camera body then the real issue is the lenses you use. To shoot indoor sports in most high school or middle school gyms you need the fastest lenses you can get. I shoot most of my work with a 24-70 f2.8 and a 70-200 f 2.8. Outdoor daylight sports is a different story. For a low price the Sigma 150-500 or the new 150-600 work pretty well if you can't afford a 400 f2.8 or 600 f4.
Particularly sports with high speeds such as hard hit volleyballs you need a fast shutter speed to stop the action. Can't do that with a kit lens. As long as the camera will support a fast lens and doesn't have a shutter lag it will work for sports photography. The rest is understanding the sport, being in the right spot and timing.
