I have read a lot of positive comments about the New Canon 7d mkii as the best sports camera now with 10 fps and priced at around $2.000

As I am a long time Nikon user, but sometimes on the look for other options I was thinking if this new Canon would be my entry ticket to Canon. I am year by year getting more and more time for my photography and was thinking about a sports camera for next spring, and therefore looking at the new Canon 7d mk ii.

But now when I am studying this on the internet another camera with much better specs and price keep popping up on my screen. So my question is, has anyone here got the Samsung NX1? If so, how good is it.

I see it has 4K video, which is not much for me as I am rarely doing videos. But it also has 15 fps, 28 mpx sensor, three times more focus points and much lighter and slimmer plus lot of other features that the Canon has not. Plus it is $4-500 cheaper. Actually the only thing in favor of Canon here is more lenses available for the Canon.

But specs is one thing, real life use is another, so I am curious about if any members here have any experience with the Samsung NX1.

What would you recommend I buy, the Canon or the Samsung?

Have you looked for Samsung forums? Or possibly you tube vids?
What is the lens selection like for your intended purposes?

If this camera is really that good and there are lenses for it, I might go there for my fast moving stuff too.

This Samsung entered the market one month ago so there is still not much info about it from the buyers. But we will probably see more review and ratings in the coming months. I have still 3-4 months until I decide what I do.

As far as mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras go...the NX 1 is the best on the market...I've never shot sports with one but that 15 fps is mind boggeling!

By all means, do go to the dark side.
I'll give all your "nasty" Nikon gear a good home... ;)

Do you really need 10 or 15 FPS? Perhaps what you need is a movie camera, not a dSLR camera.
Even when there have been lots of talk lately about Scott Kelby switching to Canon for the speed I find that Nikon cameras, at least for me have all the speed I need for my wildlife photography and sports. I know that we are all different but even my D2H, an old camera capable of 8 FPS I use at 5 FPS when shooting wildlife and for me that is enough performance. If I did not get with that the action I wanted then I need to improve on my technique.
Unfortunately I am not the one to tell you which of the cameras you mention is a good choice but I dare to say that surely not everybody needs 10 FPS to shoot wildlife.

Don't just look at fps. Also consider if the camera focuses and meters each shot and the buffer depth. 10 fps may be great but if the buffer only lets you shoot for a second and a half, not so much. My d810 is only 5 fps but a can shoot for 5-6 seconds at that rate and it focuses and meters each shot (i have it set to release-focus priority for continuous shooting).

I'm not advocating any particular camera/system here. just saying fps can be a misleading spec to look at.

I think you are over-constraining the problem. You should be asking "What is the best consumer camera for sports today?" An interchangeable lens mirrorless camera may be a better option because you can get higher frame rates at lower cost.

With an adapter, you can use your Nikon lenses on an 18mp Nikon 1 V3 and get frame rates up to 20fps with continuous autofocus and 2.7 magnification due to the crop factor of the 1" sensor. Of course the buffer fills up pretty fast at high frame rates. At 10fps it fills up in 4 sec.

5fps is adequate.
3 is not bad.

Actually the best sports camera is still the Canon EOS-1D X. But it costs almost $7K for the body. If you can't swing that, but can afford $1,800, then the 7DII is it.

I agree. I got a D610 in September and haven't looked back. I did, however have a lot invested in Nikkor glass.
