Can any Hoggers out there advise on the average number of shutter actuations typically found on refurbished Nikon bodies sold from Nikon USA? There is a sale, going on right now and I may just pull the trigger on a new body but their chat line told me they did not have that information available. So, I figured I would check with some of you who may have purchased from them before and see what your experience has been. There is a short window for this opportunity so I am hoping someone out there will be able to comment on this rather quickly. Thanks.

From what I've heard here before the shutter count is usually very low and have heard of some even like,... new. You can't go wrong with a Nikon refurb.

IF you're purchasing from Nikon USA, or B&H, or Adorama, I would have NO reservations about ordering a refurb. I would NOT buy one from Joe's Cameras & Janitorial Service. Most refurbs have seen either no actual use, or extremely limited. And the fact that they're gone over thoroughly by trained techs, and not just "line workers" they can actually be better than a new one.

I bought my D5100 as a refurb from B&H and have had no trouble whatsoever with it. I couldn't tell it from brand new.

Thanks, I have purchased refurbished lenses just not the body. Have had great success with the lenses. I will expect the same here.

Plus one other thing, if you aren't completely satisfied all the reputable dealers(including Nikon) will take returns. You may have to pay return shipping though unless it is somehow defective(and that is doubtful.)
What are you looking at?

I just bought a Nikon refurbished D5300 with 516 shutter actuations. Awesome camera, just like brand new.

A little over a month ago I purchased a re-furbed D7100 from Cameta Camera. After taking several test shots, I uploaded a pic to shuttercount.com and it came up with a whopping 39 actuations on the shutter.

Even if it had a couple thousand, it would be a drop in the overall bucket as this camera is rated for 150,000 actuations.

It also came with a 1-year warranty from Cameta which was another huge plus.

This is my second refurb and I have no qualms whatsoever about doing it again.

They have an incredible price on a D610.

There seems to be a large group of refurb users here on the Hog. That should be a good sign. What has to be the most over-used question concerns the shutter count of refurbed bodies. When my refurbed Canon arrived it gave itself away, the box was marked as such. The camera could have passed for new, not a mark on it. With a newly charged battery I went through several different test scenarios and could not find any flaws. For any man's logic, I possessed a new camera. When asked the immortal question I thought, "Who cares?" Canon claims a certain number of actuations and if I can ever possibly get anywhere near that number, I will not care about anything other than breathing. I am having one hell of a great time trying, but there are a lot of clicks to go.

You'll love it. I have the D600 and it's great. It fits my hand well and has a good feel to it. It also takes great photos too. You didn't mention a lens, but the 24-85mmVR that is available with it, is really crisp for a so-called "kit-lens." At the short end(24mm) it's at a aperture of f3.5. That'll grab lots of light and it's good all the way to 85mm which is at f4.5. It's not a f2.8 but it's close and look at the price difference. I added the 70-300mmVr too. But, that's another story. Need any help with it, PM me or post something. There are lots of D6x0 shooters here.
Good Luck.

I bought a refurbed D7100 in July and it only had 217 shutter actuations on it. It is around 3,700 now and I am happy as a drunk in a brewery.

Unlike everyone else, I was a little irritated when my factory refurb came in with 745 actuations, leaving me with a life expectancy of only 149,255. I mean, geez, I can go through that in just ten years!

My Nikon D800 from Adorama had 5000. if I had found out in time I would have returned it. New Camera five year warranty refurbished 90 days. I would rather have the warranty.

I've gotten Nikon bodies with a low of 44 clicks, and a high of 1,910. Most were under 500. Refurbs are my first choice when buying bodies.
