Once you get both pictures in digital form (pic of pic) or scaned. Just put them in a software double frame or some other multi-image layout project. This can be done in Picasa (free). Just search youtube for "combine two images using picasa 3"

Skiman,
I'm not sure that is what I want to do? I already have Picasa, (actually haven't installed it yet) I don't think I want to combine them, but show how similar they are. Please forgive me if I am not using the right terms. I have a large picture of my wife at 2. (I'm sure I'll have to size it down) I want to show a picture of my daughter, and my wife in the same frame, both at 2 yrs of age. To show how much they look alike.
Thanks,
Andy

I see 1 photo of my wife at 2 and my daughter who will be 2. I want to show in one photo, how much they look alike. I'm pretty sure I don't want to combine them, but show them side by side. (again in one photo) How much they look alike. I want who ever looks at the photo to ask which one is my daughter and which one is my wife.
From a newbie, I don't think I can explain it any better than that?
Thank You!
Andy

The folks who've asked you to post the two photos in the pp section gave you good advice, then we can see what you're trying to work with and some folks there are very skilled.

If you don't have advanced pp skills and you mean to do this project yourself, you could just put the separate photos of mother and daughter into a double frame. You'd have to set up the daughter photo in similar dress, style and pose and develop them similarly to get them to "present" enough alike to make your point, but it could be done. I did that with a lookalike project of my husband and my grandson who looked a lot alike at 3. Found the baby a blue striped shirt that was very similar to grandaddy's in his old photo and developed it in a limited color palette to make it look old-style. Once I also did a family project where I took old photos of my parents (mom in college grad photo and dad in army commissioning photo), put them both in antique frames and set them together on a family heirloom table with soft lighting and look a photo of the set up and framed that. There's a hundred other ways to do such as this, hopefully some people more creative than me will offer ideas too...

Take a picture of your daughter, print it at 10x12 or close, get a large frame, cut a custom matte, put both pictures in it. Done.

In fact, if you make them look too much alike people wont be able to tell the difference and might miss the point. I would want there to be some artifacts in the photos that speak to the age of the photos, so folks can tell which is the older photo and which is the new one. If the resemblance is that uncanny folks will catch on.

Take a pic of your wife's pic at two years old. You would then need to pose your daughter according to your requirements. What I would attempt is a reflection shot. I am sure you've seen pics of a face (front image) being reflected in a mirror, also front image, one being your wife and the other your daughter. Or a simple reflection in the water, with probably your wife being the reflection. A PS guru would have no trouble getting this to work. Hope this helps.

Simpler Alternate Method is to place the two images in the way that shows both 2yr olds and take one picture of the two pictures.

Not sure how to start with this, or even if the title is accurate. My (almost) 2yr old looks exactly like my wife when she was 2. So for my wife's birthday, my mother inlaw got a 10x12 picture of my wife when she was 2. I mean the resemblance is incredible. Anyway, I'd like to do something with the picture of my wife (at 2) and my daughter who is turning 2 in July. This is WAY beyond my beginner level, but I want to do something. (obviously I know anyone can take a picture of a picture) What I want a pro to capture is the...I guess the inoccent's (sp?) of my wife's picture at 2, and my daughter at 2.
I guess what I'm asking, is can this be done? Actually, I think I want advice on what I can do with a pic of my wife at 2 and a pic of my daughter at 2.
As always, all advice greatly appreciated!

Taking a picture of a picture is possible of course, the rest of the responses deal with Post Production mostly. Let me say that you may want to try the Macro setting on you camera and compare to other modes like Manual or Auto you may try, to get the best detail. Old photos may not be as sharp as some of our contemporary ones, and even a good DSLR will probably lose any exact focus and sharpness in the originals. I have a large Epson 836XL scanner I bought years ago for reproducing artwork. (For instance when I did photo restoration the scanner was the only way to do it) A good scanner beats a good camera 100% of the time in my experience, my scanner even picks up the color dots in a magazine photo that are invisible to the naked eye, pretty much impossible for any normal camera; but you may not have access to a good scanner.

Personally, I would like the image of the 2 year old holding the image of your wife when she was 2. Maybe dress the 2 year old in a manner that ties together the two (i.e., the same outfits or at least the same "topic" of outfit).
Maybe even multiple images of your wife at different stages of her life, representing what might be in the 2 year olds future? I love that kind of stuff!

Andy- I'm new here too! If I understand correctly, you'd like to capture the uncanny resemblance of your wife and your daughter at 2 years old. The only thing I can think of would be to take a picture of your daughter, and have it enlarged to the same size if possible, then why not put both photos next to each other and then fill the frame with both photos and shoot. Sorry, I only have a film camera, but this is how I'd do it. It just may be the easy way to do it. I hope this helps, nivram777
