Does the Canon 6D maintain autofocus with 1.4 tele on 400mm F5.6 lens

I ordered a Canon 6D and am waiting for delivery. My question concerns the Canon 400mm f5.6 lens and 1.4 Canon teleconverter combination. Does anyone know if I will retain autofocus with that combination? And how well does it do in terms of sharpness and noise?

The answer is no. The 5D MkIII will but the 6D won't. Even with the MkIII and a 1.4TC attached, autofocus slows considerably. The combination of 6D and 400mm, f/5.6 is vey good so enjoy that combination.

I can't tell you anything about the lens, but as far as the 6D's high ISO performance this may help answer any question you have about noise:

if yo already have the lens the question is, will the teleconverter fit and can I get along with manual focus.

I have a medium format camera, I bought a 400mm auto focus , and don't hesitate to use a 1.4 or 2.0 teleconverter even though they don't auto focus.

Thank you for your answer. I have several Canon L lenses to use with the 6D and as well as the Tamron 150-600, so I have the full range covered. I was just curious about the use of the 1.4 teleconverter as I already own it.

Thank you for your response. I saw your original post about the high ISOs several weeks ago and it was influential in my ordering the 6D. It looks like it will do much better than my 7D as far as noise is concerned.

I spent some time last weekend shooting in a rather dimly lit museum at ISOs from 6400 to 25,600, handheld with no flash and an EF17-40mm f/4 L lens. The results were very good. You won't be disappointed with its low light/low noise capabilities.

Hey guys, sorry to get off topic a bit here, but have any of you tried that
in-camera HDR on your 6D? If so, how is it working out?

I've used it a few times. My only complaint is the camera will only do HDR in jpg format. No raw. Guess that's Canon's marketing strategy to get one to buy a higher model. I'm not sure, but it's possible that the 60D does HDR in raw.

I doubt that the 60D does HDR RAW. It's a lower level body and a generation older technology. Both my 70D and 6D do HDR only in JPEG.

I don't know 100% for a fact, but I don't think the 60D does in-camera HDR of any type at all.

Bill, if you have the canon 1.4x, you will have to tape the pins, that will get you the auto focus you need. ;-)

That's true but the focusing will be dead slow and his aperture will be f/8 wide open. Not worth it when Bill has the whole range covered with his lenses. He doesn't need it.

It depends on the teleconverter. You purchase all this exotic equipment first and then ask if it will work. Probably not if you purchased the least expensive teleconverter.
