Thank you very much for your complete listing of all the changes in E11&E12, Ziza. I've been working on installing it in my computer for a couple of hours and am having problems. First, when attempting to install, I inserted the disc in my USB Superdrive. I immediately got a message about mail not being able to shut down, looked up that error message and remedied it. Then I tried to run the disc again only for the drive to eject the disc. Time and time again. I looked up compatibility issues concerning E11 and Mavericks. I bought this as a program on Amazon probably about a year ago. Some threads say that there is problems with E11 and some say no. I'm thinking of just getting E12, though I know the differences won't be great (between 11&12.)

The fact that Adobe made major changes to the format {?} in E11, would allow me to get away from the compatibility issues and plus the update to E12 if I were to purchase E12.

I hope you're able to understand this coming from my convoluted mind. Again, thank you for taking your time and being so helpful.

Donna,

I am not trying to persuade you not to purchase Elements 12 but I thought I should remind you that Elements 13 should be released in a few months. If Adobe keeps on track, Elements 13 should be here in mid-September.

Barbara Brundage, Elements guru, Mac expert, and writer of The Missing Manual books, has some information on her blog about Elements and Mavericks. I would trust any information coming from her.

As to the 12.1 update? Here is some information on the issues which were addressed.

I'm inclined now, after reading these links, Ziza, to hold off until Sept. to buy E13. I did have Photoshop on CC but canceled it because I never used it. I wonder if when I install E13 in Sept., that it will be a 'clean' install, having everything that Elements offer? Again, thank you so much for looking up all these sites. To be truthful, my head is spinning.

I am so sorry. I didn't mean to make your head spin. LOL!!!

Each and every one version of Elements is an independent one. It makes no difference if your Mac has hosted several versions of Elements or none.

And here is something else. Because you already have one version of Elements, you will be entitled to buy Elements 13 at "upgrade" price. There is only one version of Elements; there is no such a thing as a full and an upgrade version of Elements. The "upgrade" term refers to the price only.

Here is one idea. You could get help with installing your copy of Elements 11. Post a question in the Adobe Photoshop Elements forum. This forum is 100% dedicated to Elements. And Barbara Brundage is one of the Moderators there.

Please know that you don't have anything to do with the head spinning, Ziza! You have only been very, very helpful and concerned. Yes, that sounds like a good idea and I'll pursue it. I don't think tonight though. Perhaps tomorrow morning starting out afresh. I'll bookmark that site and will look there. Ziza, I can't thank you enough for devoting so much time to my problem. I truly am appreciative.

No problem! It is always a good thing to take a break and begin fresh the next day.

Donna, you might consider Adobe's Creative Cloud where you can get Photoshop CC and LR5 for $10.00 per month. Those that have it like it. Good luck.

Hi,

I'm getting back into photography with the help of you kind ppl and I have a lot of questions. I have a new copy of Elements 11 for Mac that I have never used and bought some time ago. Would it be better if I bought a new copy of Elements 12 instead? Are there a lot of additions to 12? I mostly shoot flowers and have a Canon T4i and will be using my 100mm 2.8 IS macro lens.

I appreciate your answers and want to thank you in advance.

I had CC for a time and canceled because I didn't use it. I know there are a lot of pluses in having it, but I already have a an up-to-date copy of Lightroom on my computer.

Thank you for your response, David.

For your stated purpose, Elements 11 is absolutely fine. There were only a few changes in PSE 12, and nothing worth upgrading yet. As a PSE user since PSE 1, I have found that upgrading every two versions constitutes a worthwhile upgrade. In that vein, I am waiting to check out PSE 13.
I have also done this as the consecutive upgrades do not usually add enough.

Please understand that Elements is a pixel editor and Lightroom is essentially a whole image overlay editor. If you need or plan to do any pixel editing such as old photo restoration or repair, Lightroom will not do the job.

I would also be very careful not to plan on skipping more than one version of Elements, as Adobe has been known to tighten up on what they consider an eligible earlier version for the purposes of upgrade.

I agree with many of the posts here. Use 11 since it's paid for, and then before you upgrade, make sure you understand that Adobe is shifting to the pay-forever rental business model which may well include future versions of Elements. In other words, when 11 no longer does the job, look around at other options. There are many good image editors that are better then Elements and cheaper than CC.

I've never even considered another program but now that you've mentioned it, I have seen ppl say they do use other ones. You've brought up an idea I hadn't considered. Thank you so much for adding this Mldavis. Much appreciated.
