Hi,

I'm getting back into photography with the help of you kind ppl and I have a lot of questions. I have a new copy of Elements 11 for Mac that I have never used and bought some time ago. Would it be better if I bought a new copy of Elements 12 instead? Are there a lot of additions to 12? I mostly shoot flowers and have a Canon T4i and will be using my 100mm 2.8 IS macro lens.

I appreciate your answers and want to thank you in advance.

Donna

I would work with my copy of 11 and see how it worked. You might want to look at Light room 5 and down load it. You can try it for free for 30 days. It retails for about $140 and since you already have Elements, you could spend that money on this. Just an idea. I don't know what the charge is to upgrade from 11 to 12 on elements. But Light Room is to Elements what Photoshop is to Light Room.

Donna, If you have E11 and it is paid for, then I don't think you will see that paying again for the new E12 version is that different.
Ccheck out the sales site and the list of what is different between the 2 versions.
I have owned E11 for 3 years and love it.

You can see the difference between Photoshop Elements 11 and 12 by clicking on the link below:

P.S. There are about 12 new accessories in 12... if you don't need them then 11 will be fine.

For your stated purpose, Elements 11 is absolutely fine. There were only a few changes in PSE 12, and nothing worth upgrading yet. As a PSE user since PSE 1, I have found that upgrading every two versions constitutes a worthwhile upgrade. In that vein, I am waiting to check out PSE 13.

I do have Lightroom 5, I think it may be 5.4 or something without looking it up right now. I ordered two books from Amazon to help me. Now, to crack those books! Thank you for your answer, David.

Oh yes, E11 is paid for, it's just life got in the way and I never dedicated myself to it. I'm sure there are other differences, but the one I saw that would be nice was sharing your pics on Twitter. This is assuming I had any photos worth sharing :) I'm encouraged that you say you love E11. Thank you for your fast response!

I don't think I'll need them at this time, Bruce, so will wait until E13 comes out. The link was very helpful. Thank you so much for your help.

I already signed up for Phil Steele's course online but will bookmark this. Saying I need all the help I can get is an understatement. Thank you once again, David. :)

Donna, you will enjoy version 11. There are a few nice changes to version 12, especially the content-aware move tool. But 11 has the new interface, content-aware healing brushes, and thousands of other useful things.

Thank you, HT, I hope to get into the books and read them, I also bought two concerning E11. Although I had Elements in older versions, I haven't worked with it for several years. I can't wait to get started :) Thank you again!

Adobe overhauled Elements with version 11. There was no reason for them to do another major overhaul with version 12. Only a few features were added in version 12 and also a few features were removed. The major change in Elements 12 is that it is a 64-bit application when installed on a Mac. I have both Elements 11 and 12. I didn't pay for Elements 12. If I had been required to pay, I would not have gone for it.

Here is what is new in Elements 11:

Here is what is new in Elements 12:

http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/using/whats-new.html

And here is what has been removed in Elements 12:

The Lighting Effects filter and Color Variations can be put back in Elements 12 running on Windows. Unfortunately, this is not possible when Elements 12 is installed on a Mac.

Thank you very much for your complete listing of all the changes in E11&E12, Ziza. I've been working on installing it in my computer for a couple of hours and am having problems. First, when attempting to install, I inserted the disc in my USB Superdrive. I immediately got a message about mail not being able to shut down, looked up that error message and remedied it. Then I tried to run the disc again only for the drive to eject the disc. Time and time again. I looked up compatibility issues concerning E11 and Mavericks. I bought this as a program on Amazon probably about a year ago. Some threads say that there is problems with E11 and some say no. I'm thinking of just getting E12, though I know the differences won't be great (between 11&12.)

The fact that Adobe made major changes to the format {?} in E11, would allow me to get away from the compatibility issues and plus the update to E12 if I were to purchase E12.

I hope you're able to understand this coming from my convoluted mind. Again, thank you for taking your time and being so helpful.
