Perspective can increase size

Train is stationary and I am the locomotive engineer under proper safety training to capture this image, do not try this under penalty of federal law

Perspective can also reduce size when this train rolls over you. Did you know that you are trespassing when you take a photo like this ?

An admittedly cool photo; but I have to agree with the previous post. A bit risky if you ask me.

Assuming the train is moving. Headlights are not on. No smoke from the engine apparent.Only the front indicators and numbers are lighted.
But then again if we only took pictures when we were really safe, a lot of really good pictures would only be in our imagination.

This is not trespassing when I am the engineer of this train and am a current employee of over 30 years with this railroad, yes it is a federal crime to be on railroad property without written permission from the railroad and a safety hazard if you aren't properly trained on the hazards of equipment and property and the use of railroad property, I extensively train on rules and safety yearly to stay certified.

When stopped on the CN Rail we may extinguish our headlights under U.S.O.R.(United States Operating Rules rule 412)

Do you own the RR,or are you an employee. Do you have written permission to do this type of photography of your company's equipment and display it publicly from their property ?

Yes I do have permission since I take images for CN corporate use but have sole rights to it what they don't use and have a 77 page agreement between them and the use of my work

a person who photographs from a public location any railroad equipment can do so and use it to sell as a print as long as it is not used for advertisement purposes, I have had several of my prints used in a Corporate Rail Magazine "Railway Age" and the CN logo must be blanked out if contact of permission is made with the company it displays and only once did that have to be done with my images.

I did not realize that you were the engineer. I also thought that the train was moving. (Not expert enough to know about the light rule.) Given that new information, I'd say that it is a very nice photo. My apologies for assuming that you had put yourself in harms way.

You talking about this shot? I was the engineer of this train and on duty, we were sitting in this control siding for over an hour waiting for 3 westbounds to clear before we could continue our route, I am not trespassing if I am the employee in charge of this train and followed all safety rules per our rules and examinations require, you clearly have no idea what I as a railroad employee and one of our company photographers is entitled to do under US and Canadian laws.
