Fabulous photo! With all the interest people have in photographing trains, it would be nice if there were better opportunities to safely take photos of trains. I wonder how many photographers know all the laws regarding taking photos of trains. It seems that a museum is our best bet.
All concerns aside, thanks for sharing.

The problem a vast majority don't and have been arrested by doing things they shouldn't and with all the big brother security cameras on buildings and such the courts can use that as evidence to prosecute, 99% of it is common sense to not get ones self into the target zone, it's illegal to just walk on the RofW(right of way) even if your just crossing it to get from one side to the other.

Assuming the train is moving. Headlights are not on. No smoke from the engine apparent.Only the front indicators and numbers are lighted.
But then again if we only took pictures when we were really safe, a lot of really good pictures would only be in our imagination.

After cutting through all of the BS about of whether or not you should have/or should not have taken this image when you stated your credentials......geeeesh!!....I can now state I like it. Good color, clarity. & sharpness of image make it eye pleasing. Now back to debating a non issue children. (not referring to the image owner)8-)

Great capture. With or with all the rules. I too was an engineer for 37 years and saw a lot of FRNs.

Haven't read the other 7 pages of responses, but a guy posts a nice shot and just about all I read on the first page was criticism and harassment. What's the matter with you people? Which one of you with the negative posts is the damn railroad police? Get a life.

Liked your photo.
