My old Nikon Ftn with the 135mm 2.8.

Served me well back then and I suspect, with the coming Zombie Apocalypse, I'll be able to cobble together the chemicals, dig out my old enlarger and get back to printing. ( no electricity to recharge batteries ) Besides, the camera can double as a wonderful zombie killing, skull crusher.

What's this "which one lens, camera, etc." thing? Pro photographers all have backups, as do most of us amateurs. I have an E-PL5 as my primary camera and a Kodak Z990 as a backup, along with a collection of Kodaks from Ebay and now a 35mm film SLR to play with.

If you could have one pair of shoes...ponder that for comparison.

If you don't like the question, don't comment on it. It is a perfectly legitimate question. Maybe the OP wants to simplify or just get some insight.

I am not sure what one camera I would choose, but I will think about it now. Thanks artelizabeth!

My favorite go to camera that I use is my Canon G9. It has decent zoom, 12MP, and has never let me down. Even when I was shooting with my Canon 5D, I kept the G9 close at hand. I use it every year for birthdays, Christmas, and just general photography. I do use an on camera flash to keep the red eye to a minimum. I've had anything from Hassys, Mamiyas, 4x6, 6x6, 6x7, Rolleis, now Nikon, Canon, and Fuji digital cameras, but I always go back to the G9. I did purchase a Fujifilm X-10 and have started using it more and more. Also a small camera with excellent picture quality. I wouldn't do a wedding with the G9 or X-10, but they are good enough as an emergency backup if needed, and everything else I have failed.

I would buy a Nikon D7100 camera. I have a D5100 at the moment and my 18-300 Nikon lens. I use this lens 90% of the time with the D5100. I would really like the D7100 and wish I had bought it instead, but I'm very happy with what I have.

I would not give up my Sony RX10. Don't care if this amuses the Canikons.

I've had several "boxes" thru my 80+ years; I think my current Olympus SP-800 UZ is the most versatile of all; but it does have a couple of shortcomings, i.e. no controls on aperture and shutter: these are automatic and set by the camera dependent on the situations. It has a plethora of programs and it does have a 30 X zoom and 14 megapix
els What's not to like. Alyn

Thought about it. I would go with the Leica M-Monchrome with the 35 mm f/1.4.

I agree with Wahawk and Growler. The SX50 is perfect for me.

OK, this is a hypothetical question and should be answered hypothetically. I would choose a film camera because I enjoy the anticipation, apprehension and continuation of the photographic experience after the actual exposure. I would choose a twin-lens reflex (Automatic Rolleiflex) with a 75mm f/3.5 Tessar or Planar lens for versatility and ease of handling as well as superb imaging, and add at least one Proxar closeup supplementary lens. 75mm is slightly more wide-angle, which suits my taste.
