As a Vol. Fireman for 39 years PLEASE get the wireing checked SOON! We all would hate to read about you in the papers on the obit. page. Fire can hide in a wall for a day or two. and come out while you sleep.

This house was a model home and they used it for the sales office. I'm sure it's something simple. Like wrong sized breakers that were never meant to be used.
I totally understand where you are coming from and I don't mean to make light of the situation... however I did mean it all in jest. I will take your advice.

At the very least I would make sure I had a smoke detector in every hallway and every bedroom as it is very likely that besides the cross circuts, and the over loaded circuts-the chances are great you may well have some undersized wires and or oversized circut breakes. Either of which can be fatal. Detectors and a planned escape route - rental or not, dead is dead and a fire is just as hot.

Oh yeah we have smoke detectors in every room and in the hallway.

Yeah I'm not holding out much hope for the home we end up buying in Tennessee. I want at least an acre of land for the dogs so it's gonna have to be out in the boonies somewhere. Something to look forward to I guess :)

What part of TN are you moving too?

Right now we are looking at Bowling Green. Mainly because there is a full service military base near there and that's where we like to shop, get our meds, etc.

I am with "14kphotog" don't let it go another day. Call the landlord and send them a letter. That needs to be fixed yesterday. Electricity is a huge cause of fires.

Y'all are taking it way too serious. It's just a breaker...which doesn't pop everytime .... just often enough for me to forget about it LOL.
I meant this as a humorous post. I will notify the owner today afterall it is her house and I don't want to be responsible for her losing her property.
However knowing Gail as I do ..... it won't be high on her list of priorities. But I do thank each and every one of you for your concern for our safety :). That part I do really appreciate. I won't let it slide one more day. I will call her later on (it's only 7am now) today.

I own a home and my hub is into ham radio. When he goes on the radio my under cabinet kitchen lights seem to take on a life of their own. Flashing randomly through low med and high until he gets off the radio.

rivernan, be glad your Ham husband does not have that problem with your neighbors hi hi from another ham in Mifflin county

This house we have lived in for the last couple of years is truly weird. If I am using the stove and the oven, then turn on the microwave it pops the breaker for the computers in the other room.
I'm sure it's a wiring messup somewhere, but since we only rent and won't be here much longer than another year, plus given the fact that I couldn't really care less, I'm just not going to do anything about it LOL.
The hubby has to remind me whenever I'm cooking a really involved dinner not to use all 3 at the same time .... what a guy !
I figure that IF we survive Dec 21,2012 then we are moving to TN so why bother lol.
This house we have lived in for the last couple of... (show quote)

When the wife and I purchased our place here in the Ozarks we needed to do a complete re-do on the inside of the house, built in 1936 and added onto ever since. When I came to wiring I was horrified, I couldn't believe that the house had not burned down. To that point only God kept the fires out.
Like everyone says don't take any chances with glitch y electric wiring

Microwaves need to be on their own circuit. I think it a code thing.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that is the problem. Or something similar. This kitchen was never intended to be used as a real kitchen. This was the model home and leasing office for the development.

Hi, is your house over 25 years old? If so there's a good chance the wiring was never designed to handle all of today's gadgets. It may have been designed to handle a 17" tv,on a stand, that may have been replaced by a surround sound entertainment center. All that stuff adds up. Our house is fifty years old and the dining room lite dims when the microwave cycles. We didn't have a dishwasher or micro wave when this house was built. If you've ever seen a new home being built, you'll see a very different wiring plan than years ago. Maybe your next home will be newer with more circuits...... Good luck

No at one time she wanted to sell it to us but she wanted 100,000.00 more than the houses on the street were selling for in this market. I believe it was built in 2003. I really like the woman and appreciate the fact that she went out of her way to hold a place for us while we were still planning our move from the islands, but.... I don't like her one hundred thousand dollars worth. Not my fault she bought in a different market when the price was high.

If all else fails go to the building code inspector in your area. Ask the landlady nicely at first but if you don't see prompt results the inspector can turn the heat up. I probably sound like a grouchy old curmudgeon but you are sleeping in that place and if that is a problem there may be others that you are unaware of. Fire just scares the bejabbers out of me.
