Camera brands are like religion. The first one is likely to be the last one.

I once bought a Canon film camera for my son. Liked it. Bought one for myself. Bought an extra Canon lens and flash. Too expensive to switch brands. Always regretted not having a more prestigious Nikon but my Canon 60D is the ultimate camera for me, now that is. This is after having been serious about photography and darkroom work since 1959.

The variability among photographers and your own work is greater than the variability among contemporary cameras. Whatever you do, if you like the results, you will praise the camera. And if you do not like the results, you will curse the camera, buy a new one, and curse the new one. In other words, if you do not have what you love, love what you have.

Good luck.

When I was first researching what brand to buy (and of course to fit in my price range),I read about everything I could. That's when I decided that the Nikon D90 was the one I wanted.I am very happy with this camera, although someday I would like to have a full frame camera.

Excellent point - with one exception, if I like the results, it's because of my skill.

When I chose, one of my main criterias was to find a camera that used SD cards since I had so many fast and high capacity cards (at the time they were high capacity).

I have pretty much always used Canon except for a Minolta when it first came out with autofocus. I currently have the original Rebel, XSI, SX10 IS, SX40 IS, 230 Point and Shoot with GPS and a film model which has had a roll of slide film in it for several years that is not finished. Digital spoils a person. I have stuck with the lower end SLR models because they do what I want and I can afford to update more often that way. I have taken photos for magazines, newspapers etc and they did the job. As far as the Chevy/Ford debate, we have 3 Fords. Wouldn't drive anything else.

I'm a noob, and wanted to buy Nikon D7000 because there was a sale.. Then I checked with my friends, and I sh*t you not, 90% of them have Canon cameras, and maybe 5% have Nikons. So I can borrow or at least ask to look at almost any Canon lens at any time. I have a free lending pool of Canon lenses. Oh, and my company uses almost exclusively Canons, so I can borrow very nice and expensive lenses for free for a weekend. This was determining factor for me.

I feel very sad about this situation - it's killing competition. I hope Nikon, Sony and/or others will pick up the pace.

I'm just curious to see which brand of cameras is the most preferred between Canons and Nikons and which models you have/your favorite lenses with these cameras.
And a quick hello as I'm new to this form... Hiya!

You're going to read comments from lots of fence riders on this topic; stating that oh yes, they are all good cameras, go by the way they feel in your hands, etc., etc. but thats not what you will hear from me; having used Canon, Sony, and Nikon in recent years, I personally prefer the Nikon cameras by far, for lots of reasons but most importantly because of the quality images produced! Others will have their own opinions but since you asked, that is mine! To each his own!

I believe Canon sells more cameras and photo equipment than Nikon.

like I said before - my wife has a Canon and I shoot with Nikon.
When we go hiking it is never an issue with us or a competition as to the Camera. It's the adventure and the bonding that we get from doing something we both love. She likes to create photo albums I work on DVDs (she has a PC & I have a Mac - again it is the adventure. I have no doubt this N/C battle will never rest. But at the end of the day forget about what camera you have and just go shoot pictures for the beauty of it. I love this forum because it mostly addresses the questions we need help with and thank you for that.
Happy New Year to all. :D

There is always a sale and that is how they get you to buy. And the wrong reason to buy. Be rational.

I think they have marriage support groups for couples with problems like that. Mixed marriage or something like that.

LOL - we are having fun and that is what it is all about. Being with friends and family is always a "Kodak" moment. keep a camera with you and capture those memories for always. That is what matters most. :D

2 years ago my Sony point & shoot had outlived it's usefulness. I thought I would try a Nikon. I bought a Nikon S70 point & shoot. What a mistake !!! Besides blurry pictures the battery would go dead after 20-25 pictures. Bought a second battery, same problem. After 6 months of trying to talk to someone at Nikon about my problem & warranty. They said I would have to send it back to them at my own expense. It cost me $30.00 to ship it back to them. A month later I got the camera back and could now take 200-250 pictures on a full charge. It still takes horrible pictures. I now own a Canon Rebel 3 and I'm very happy again. I would never buy another Nikon product. Their customer relation department might as well be non-existent. You won't get any help from them.
