The lowest price I saw last month when I bought my D7100 rfurb was $919 at Cameta and $939 at B&H. I bought from B&H as they seemed the most reliable.

There's a refurb on ebay, through Amazon, through Adorama. Considering the price and the seller, you're not going to find any better.

Or, you could go to Adorama directly.

Yes, I too have some fond memories of LRE. While it's founder was alive, it was a great company to be associated with. Unfortunately, when he passed people took over that didn't know the market or the suppliers and the company took a nose dive. I still have some audio equipment left from those days. Bought my first 35mm SLR (Miranda Sensorex) from them also. And my good friend Walter was the manager of the Union Square store that you mention.

Those were the good old days! Thanks for your comments.

I bought a Nikon factory refurb D7100 3 weeks ago from Adorama's ebay store for $819. The camera and everything in the Nikon box appeared brand new and the body had 447 actuations on it. I am very happy with my purchase. That price included shipping and a 30 day return policy, no worries here, I'm keeping it!

edit: By the way, that price was the buy it now price!

Unlike new cameras, refurb prices vary quite a bit. You got that at a great price.

That seller joined last Feb and has only three transactions, if that matters to you.

Thanks Skip.I am glad for any comments or suggestions concerning my website.I guess I will just have to be patient & wait until the prices go down.I may have to sell my 5100 if prices don't go down!

I have the D5100 and put it on Craig's List because I was getting the D7100 for Christmas. Kept dropping the price until I hit $450 and that's with a warranty I bought at the time. Only had it two years but the D5200 and now the D5300 is out so you almost have to give it away to sell it. So my advice is the keep it as a second camera. I bought the 18-300 lens less than a year ago and put it on the D5100 and it's great. Now will put the lens on the D7100 and put the 18-55 kit lens on the 5100. Makes it light and I use it along with the D7100. Also if the 7100 ever fails or gets dropped or worse I have the 5100 as a back up until I can get the 7100 repaired. Also makes a great gift. I gave my D40X, which I really liked, to my daughter for Christmas as a after thought. She had a point in shoot and this was a upgrade for her. She likes it but now has to learn to shoot with a DSLR. Good camera to start with. So keep your D5100 for a couple of years so when you go to FX from DX.....give it to a young person starting out.

That is because they don't fall under Nikon's MAP pricing. They all cost dealers the same thing but the dealer can charge whatever. Usually the lower the price the more accessories you need to buy. Sometimes they just to move them but dealer cost is the same but there are no restrictions from Nikon on sell price

maybe try a refurb d600 - or even a new one (now they are obsolete) but still available.

Just a thought - getting it cleaned with Nikon not a prob.
